Port Vale v Grimsby match thread - 21st April

Clark is a beast though, so that’s positive. In 2nd gear he has most on toast.

We didn’t turn up yesterday. I can’t see it happening again. These might be good away, but they’ve just lost 4-0 at home. They concede loads and lose a lot as well. I don’t see us losing this

Get right at them and score early. As I posted before Carlisle, first goal with us is vital.

My only concern is can Stockley start again after 90+ only yesterday.

Id still go with the starting 11 from yesterday if all fit (unless Headley is ready to start) if Garrity isn’t fit then it’s time for Byers to actually turn up and put a half decent performance in. For all the talk, he’s done barely anything.

Should be beating them really at home. 2-0 vale.

Vale win plus

Bradford and Doncaster lose

Wimbledon fail to win.

In that scenario only Walsall plus the winner of Bradford v Doncaster could catch us or if a draw only Doncaster could catch us thus can’t finish below 3rd.

Don’t see that happening.

I think we’ve had some pretty remarkable results so far but I think Monday will be when it goes southbound a bit.

Bradford’s away form has not been great, they are due one as they are a decent team when all is said & done. Chesterfield need the win and I just think that will work in Bradford’s favour in a tight 1-0 away win, probably decided by a set-piece or penalty.

Doncaster are arguably now the form team, and I see a routine home win of 2-0 or even 3-0. Colchester can’t be that good if they failed to breakdown 10-man Crewe.

Walsall’s dreadful run MUST be broken at some point; as bad as some of that defending looked they ran us ragged for 20 mins so they’re surely going to get something from an awful looking Newport who’s manager is clearly counting the days until he gets the bullet or his contract expires so he can clear off back to Portugal.

Wombles have a tough game at Gills which could be a niggly encounter and I fancy a draw there.

Likewise us. I’m really worried about Garrity’s omission or even being half-fit as he’s really the glue that makes this midfield tick. I think we’ll either get hit with an early sucker punch and battle to a draw, or go one up and go ultra cautious, backs to the wall in the 2nd half and succumb to a late equaliser.

All that means we’ll be in 3rd place and needing to better others results in the last two games, Wimbledon being another humdinger.

Hold on for the ride everyone.

Think Doncaster are 8 unbeaten.

Let the other teams and supporters have the meltdown on the fixtures to the end of the season. We are masters of our destiny and that's surely what anyone would want. I've never played to pro level or even high amateur but been in teams that have played really well and then it's as though we had never had boots on before. It happens and it's how you set yourself up for next game. Anything can happen in our next three games but we know (and the lads know even better) how we can perform and our normal beats most others normal in this division. Go and be ourselves and trust in the process.

Colchester have lost 4 away games all season and need a result to guarantee staying in top 7 , Chesterfield have not lost at home to a top 10 side this season and need a win to get in the top 7, easy games for Bradford and Doncaster

Worth pointing out the form at the top is crazy

Team in 3rd has 1 win in 5

Team in 4th has 2 wins in 17

Team in 5th has 3 wins in 13

Team in 6th has 4 wins in 14

Mental stats really!

Lorne: 200 seats left
Hamil: 300 seats left

Keep going, Valiants! 👏

So many permutations could happen but it's in Grimsby's interest to come out and play for the win rather than sit back which suits Vale better.

Hope Vale come out and play with high tempo, press and don't give Grimsby a minute, any room or space, get the Vale crowd ramped up, give the Vale fans something to cheer.

I thought against Carlisle, given the size of the crowd and what was riding on the game, Vale didn't come out and play with any urgency in the first half and the crowd seemed subdued 'til Carlisle got going.

There’s a set routine.

A player takes the ball so that any ‘housery’ is directed at them. The actual taker stands away.

At the last second the ball is handed to the actual taker. This would have been agreed upon.

Its nothing to do with Byers not taking control.

Tolaj scored a last minute penalty against Fleetwood. It happens sometimes. We don’t need someone to blame.

Spot on. It was a good save , and not Tolaj’s fault. We can rectify it on Monday. I’m convinced Vale will go at them from the start , just like Bromley.

Win all 3 Vale . Come onnnnn!!

Anyone an idea why the blocks in the hamil were suddenly sold out?

We were diabolical yesterday but even we weren't this diabolical.

Christ, Grimsby are just as bad.
