Port Vale v Wimbledon match thread - 26th Oct

Featured Replies

9 games until half way… 30 points bagged, if we can win 5 we’d be half way to 90. Very doable.

Hope the players enjoyed the win then question,  why Wimbledon were the better side after 15 mins .

Even though we won what we learnt from yesterday is that you can never take  your foot off the gas ever

I watched it time and again last night and Sangy was definitely not the nearest Vale player but he reacted quickest and got across and in front brilliantly.

Reminded me of the Father Ted episode that featured a 5 a side oldies match with the immortal words ... 'where did he come from?!!'

2 sides mate. They came to play ( unlike Colchester) , we're never going to have it all our own way for 90 minutes.

We're on a fantastic run and have in my opinion not yet reached top gear.

Wimbledon were no mugs though I'm not convinced they'll make the play offs despite their performance yesterday.

Mk Dons clicking into gear with 3 wins in a row shows what an outstanding result that was.

We'll definitely smash someone 4 or 5 I'm convinced of it.

I agree Darren.

I think fans over rate Wimbledon. In the spells we played they really struggled to cope with us.  I felt like the game was too easy for our lads and they just lost concentration with sloppy play, subs weakening the team which allowed them back into the game.

For me Wimbledon are a typical L2 team who are very physical. I’d be surprised if they sneak into the playoffs.

Of the teams we have played so far I would have them finishing belowChesterfield,MK,Donny,Fleetwood Notts County and Barrow.

Listing those teams we have played only highlights how impressive our run has been.

Many might not agree but as it stands I think both Debrah and Sang have earned new contracts as i think they have improved a lot with better players around them and I do feel they could do a job for us in the league above after gaining more experience this season.

Decision on Ripley too? I believe his contact expires this season.

The goal scored by Cover was the 2nd sublime finish from him and the booking for BBB was nothing short of incompetent as was the Vale booking for time wasting in the first half, I have no idea what the line person's job was on the Railway side I hope he bought a ticket to stand and watch the game because he did chuff all else.

No referee is 'biased'. They genuinely couldn't care less about 4th tier football clubs. He would have had little to no view on Port Vale FC.

Some make poor decisions, and yesterday's did fairly often for both teams.

It appears not everyone agrees with your summary. We're all biased in some way or another, it's part of the human condition. That's why we have Juries and don't just rely on a Judge to decide in significant legal cases where the stakes are high. The Ref. is Judge, Jury and Executioner...

In this game he appeared to me to make more decisions against us than for us and for reasons I could not explain other than he had some inherent bias against us, unconscious or not. I rest my case your honour.

It actually made me a bit emotional..that guy got loads of stick last year but he absolutely threw himself to that and celebrated like a goal. Talk about giving your all!

Case not proved. I agree with JoeB2. We side with EVERY decision for the Vale and howl in protest with those against.

Yeah, good on him. I would now buy him a pint (or another drink where I'd incur a similar financial hit).

I completely agree with @JoeB2. "Bias" had nothing to do with why the referee was bad (and I think he was one of the worst I've seen) - he just didn't understand the game. You could see it from the way he repeatedly failed to play advantage for both teams and in his ludicrous decision to book Benicio. Lucky for him that both sides wanted to play rather than scrap, because he could have lost control very easily.

It was a game-winning block, that. I thought Sang was actually the best of the back three yesterday, which I think is quite high praise, even though Debrah in particular had a slightly below-par game.

His through ball to Rico (for the third goal) with the outside of his boot took some vision and execution too.  Might be a challenge to hold onto him (as a loan or as a purchase) if he keeps on improving between now and Christmas.

As some have said we need to bag as many points as possible while we have Brandon, Rico and BBB because no one knows what will happen in January. Of the loanees, Brandon’s our most regular starter who lasts a full 90 minutes too, so potentially would be the biggest miss but this season and our squad, we have players we own who’d fill the gap at this level (Kyle John, Tom Sang etc) and there’s no evidence (with the current regime) to suggest we wouldn’t be able to successfully dip in to the loan market again for replacements, if any of the current crop were to move on.
