Better than other centre backs .

Matter of opinion Granville .

Where all them managers now .

They all fired .

Knew you would pipe up .

Do you enjoy watching Vale lose .

Like I say that's your view my view is he is a very underwhelming footballer, but league 2 he is  ok generally, not a world beater as we have lost  many (many )games in league 2 when he as represented us ,so well he better be if Moore sees fit  select him, or he be going same way as all the other managers we have had .

Enjoy the season Granville and remember Port Vale is bigger than NS .

Look at the bigger picture fella when got relegated at Bolton ran down tunnel didn't even give a damn about you , and all of you who love him

That tells you something doesn't it .

It tells me loud and clear he be gone if any interest in him for sure and who's to say we wouldn't be better without him the game I enjoyed the most last season 3 -2 v Wigan he didn't even play so there's life after him .

Your vendetta knows no bounds.

VFIA and Breadwinner share similar views

And briefly another fellow called Vale Fan in D? Gardens.

Clearly quite a popular viewpoint.

While Wilks would be a great signing, it would surely mean someone like Chislett was off - how on earth does Moore keep Garrity, Chislett, Plant, Curtis, Tolaj, and Paton happy??

I would also think that while Wilks would be great, I would much rather keep what we have up front now and stick more of the budget into a proper no nonsense centre back who could be a leader at the back.

Strong competition for places is good thing.

More increasingly with 5 subs they are becoming as important as the starting 11. Managers are getting judged now on how they impact games from the bench so good options are needed. It only takes 1 injury long term injury and we would all of a sudden look very light. If lads are contributing to a winning squad towards the top end of the league they will be happy.

The squad is undoubtedly short of a winger and CB.

We fell foul of that in the last couple of seasons with the long term injuries.  Players being shoehorned into places they were not comfortable in.  The bench being threadbare of players who could make an impact when they came on.

Feel DM likes to rotate players if they are good enough to keep them all happy if they perform in training and deserve a chance.  Feel this could be a good season if the players all gel and play as a team and not individuals you sometimes see happen at clubs who have brought in players like this standard.

It feels bloody fantastic doesn't it.

Nice to be the big boy with a 'competitive' budget a big name manager attracting players rather than scratching around for value cast offs on deadline day.

We have always been a big club for League 2. Although I do agree this is probably our best window across any division since our relegation from tier 2 level in 2000

Winning bonuses keep players happy, especially if they depend on league position as well.

I'd tend to disagree on that one. If you look back at the keeper issues we'd had in the previous years then Ripley has been a marked improvement. He still has an error in him and his form dipped at the end of last season (but most of the squad did too) but his penalty saving ability is a plus as is the fact that he's more reliable than the half dozen keepers who pulled on the shirt before he arrived. He also wasn't helped last season by an awful defence in front of him.

I personally think he'll be fine for what is hopefully a successful season coming up...

We'll have to agree to disagree then 😁

Only if the players are capable of winning games
Spent most of the summer so far, away from the forum, but thought I'd dip in & check how people were feeling!
Looks like my prophecy re Carol's new found additional wealth came to fruition. There is no messing about & she is dead set on leaving a legacy & getting us in & around the Championship. The difference between this season & last, is that the family now have the funds required to be punching in & around that level.
Relegation has put us back a year, but I don't think we plan on hanging around in L2 for very long. The same investment would've materialised had we stayed up, & I think you'd have seen us push on towards the higher echelons of L1.
The decision to bring in Darren Moore was heavily linked on his ability to be able to attract bigger names & better players to the club. He knew he was going to be backed handsomely, hence why he's here.
An exciting few years ahead for us. UTV!

Have to agree with everything here
Sums up the situation perfectly

Love Rippers; as an ex-goalie i'd hate to see him go.  Firm fans-favourite.  The only thing i'd like to see Moore change in him is to tell him to dominate his box a LOT more.  He's a big unit and should be coming for every cross and, if you get in his way, that's a pair of knees in the back of your neck.

He’s so much better than previous keepers but as Bruce Grobelaar once said I’ve seen Dracula come out of his box more than Ripley comes out for a cross.

Ripley is a very good shot stopper, although  I don’t think we saw enough of that ability last season. Not seen his stats but can’t imagine his shot/ save ratio was good last season.

My concern with him is he only a good keeper when he’s busy?

Games we dominated possession last year we conceded very easily. I accept defensively we were hopeless but that’s part of the keepers role to keep watching the defenders and organise it.

I’d like to think he will be pretty quiet in most matches in the upcoming season, I’m unconvinced he has the concentration levels to do it. He looks more like a keeper who has to be involved to me.

The keeper spot is going to be a fascinating battle between him and Amos.
