Summer transfer rumours and speculation

The best thing about our transfer business is that they're all proven players on permanent deals.

Now, loans will supplement the squad.

Last year, our entire philosophy was built around 2 loan signings with a January recall clause. Madness!

And still not a single one that’s been linked, mentioned or any kind or rumour before signing. Unbelievable business & absolutely no need for this thread whatsoever ☺️

I think the signings we've made generate momentum. One of the fears at the start of the summer was how do you persuade good players to join a squad that was meekly relegated last season?
Now, it's a much more attractive proposition in - do you want to join a squad that looks like it's going places? That has made some high quality signings?
Who knows how long the Byers move was in the pipeline but I would suspect he was far more keen to join us once he saw we had Curtis, Stockley et al on the books than he would have been before they joined. Perhaps that explains why he's joined now - after he was reassured by the previous summer signings.
The exciting thing, if that's true, is what other quality players will the new signings attract?

Spot on this Rob
Say we are talking to a player and he’s undecided then he sees yesterday that Byers has signed it could just be the pull that makes the difference to them coming or not

I think the budget is clearly so much bigger, I’d suggest the money from the Synectics sale has to have been a major factor. I mean all these signings have been without compromise or others having to leave which has never really happened before. Last season it was plainly clear that the budget had huge compromises in it, especially the January window when it was clear that pretty much any average signing would have been an improvement.

He seems to get his head on the end of corners and free kicks a fair bit more than you expect from a midfielder. Him, Stockley, Garrity, Tolaj and Hall should give us some real threat from set pieces for a change you’d hope.

Can’t wait for him to salute the Vale faithful 😄

There's no question that there is some momentum building now and rightly so. Credit to the Owners, Darren Moore and the rest of the Club for creating this momentum.

Just think back a January  window further, where they officially said the'd put a break on spending. Well, at least after the window had shut, nothing had happened and communication had been all over the place...

So yeah, something have happened spending wise since then!

I think he may have been promised the Captaincy too, if all is to be believed, which would also have helped.

I’m hoping we go a bit more direct this season. These players got goals in them. Get 4 up in the first 20 mins and we can all relax (a bit, we all remember QPR)

Do we all return the salute?

Df was not just a dof in name, he was actually a club director, it was entirely his job to make a player budget to give the required success and go to board meetings to get that budget, he either failed in that, or failed to use his available budget effectively. I’ve no doubt cs has had a rude awakening with last season but I don’t believe that she or the board would not back a request for investment especially when it would of been evident that we were sliding towards trouble. Something happened in that boardroom in the January window.

9 times last season in League games we had 3 players 17/18 on the pitch at the same time. Add in our lack of strikers and it was probably no shock we went down. We had 2 16 year olds on the pitch quite often. With hindsight we both lacked the strikers to stay up and also depth in the squad. The young players performed with credit and Moore has to keep playing them but being forced to have 5 in matchday squads was probably beyond any manager. It also didn't help having a lot of inexperienced players alongide them. At times you had Debrah alongside Plant or Lomax. Sang and Debrah together didn't have a lot of experience,  nor Weir playing with Walters. Personally I think the squad size is about right now; small enough for young players to get some games, big enough to only have 3 on the pitch by choice. Wynne may well come in and has played both fullback positions and they seem to have seen something in the lad from Portugal as a development player. Otherwise it's only outgoings before incoming players and maybe an odd loan. It will be a lot harder to get good loans as clubs expect them to play.

Would be rude not too 😉

I have read many times on these posts that players downed tools last season: I disagree. The squad we had last season would have done OK (not brilliant) under DC, however, that was not to be and AC was put in charge (on merit, I may add). We're talking horses for courses here, and the way AC set up was for a more modern possession-based approach akin to that required to progress up the leagues: most teams set up this way nowadays - the only difference between those teams and Vale was that they signed players comfortable in that style of football, and we were unable to, hence the arrival of Devine and Arblaster who helped us paper over the cracks for half a season until their inevitable January departures which everyone and their dog foresaw apart from the powers that be at the club - we were unable to replace them and the rest is history. That left the majority of the squad trying to play a football they were neither comfortable with nor were able to pull off. As a result confidence, and more importantly, belief disappeared and, far from downing tools, most of the players just couldn't pull off what was being asked under AC. Eventually, and in my opinion too late, AC was relieved of his duties - this should have been done a couple of weeks prior to the transfer window opening rather than after it closed thus giving the new incumbent a chance to change things. By the time DM arrived, the players had just about had it and had had all semblance of confidence and belief battered out of them and were unable to respond to DM's more traditional methods: in fact, performances on the whole worsened until the inevitable happened. Now with a clean slate and a new start those very same players should be able to step up again quickly, and if they can't them am sure DM and Co. will see them out of the club. What is also vital, is that we as supporters have to shoulder some responsibility for the fragile nature of the players: many fans were only too quick to jump on their backs and in some cases (which is still happening today, on here and other social medias) try and 'cancel' their careers - this culture must stop at VP for the good of the club. So having helped knock them down its our responsibility to try and help the process of picking them up again. And yes, I am aware that I have commented on here about all things Loft, but, he will get my 100% support whilst he's on the field (as always). Remember earlier I said horses for courses? Lofty is a prime example: he was never going to fit in to AC's way of playing last year and too was completely broken by the time DM arrived - the thing is with Lofty he's a big unit and could, in the right system, prove to be a handful if he stays. One thing for sure is that if DM doesn't think a player will cut the mustard for him/us them he'll find a way of offloading them for the good of the club - let him do his job !

Ojo 100% downed tools

People were saying we need to offload some of the deadwood before any new faces come in about 3 signings ago 😅
