If the club do read this (and I think they are all off reading "social media" anyhow so they probably aren't) there's numerous comments on the frontpage features that are 100% behind Flitcroft leaving. I think I've had circa 100 comments since Crosby left and not a single one in support of Flitcroft.

I appreciate the owners want someone in charge of the football side of things to cover for their lack of experience but while the role may be worthwhile I just think they have the wrong person in the role.

I also appreciate that they may not want to act now while the recruitment is apparently happening but unfortunately I think they have no choice, regardless of how disruptive it is. If he appoints the wrong person then long-term damage could be done.

If they still want someone to run the football side... I hope they give some thought to getting a Colin Garlick style experienced club secretary in who can deal with the administrative side and allow a new manager to deal with all the transfers and tactics etc.

Speaking personally, I agree that Flitcroft has to go. I'm perhaps a late adopter but came to that decision after the January window closed. there was just no excuse for not bringing a striker, of some sort, in. Leaving it till the last day and then failing is totally unacceptable.

I also hope the club would see that, after throwing Ryder and co under the bus, rather than taking charge and responsibility himself, what sort of person they have as DoF.

I really don’t see why we need a director of football at our level. As long as we’ve got a decent scouting network and back room people with experience then it’s a ridiculous notion to have one. Especially one who is seemingly dictating tactics/style of play/formation.

I'd agree. I can see why you'd need a good, experienced club secretary to manage transfers, contracts all the other EFL requirements (i.e. the admin side) especially if the owners don't have that specialist knowledge. But there's no need for a DoF and presumably if they removed the role a significant wage saving too.

Flitcroft says the club has a five year plan. What is the point of that if you get the first team relegated in the first year so can’t afford to fund the next four?  I never thought I would see fans turn against Carol but that’s what is happening and a Flitcroft has to take responsibility for that.

Jean, it’s a common managerial comment. Then if everything goes wrong they’ll be able to say that the plan wasn’t given a chance no matter how bad things were. Also they’ll think it guarantees them a living for five years. She obviously thinks otherwise or she wouldn’t have made him permanent. They’re as bad as one another, we’ve been sliding down the table and are now where we deserve to be. What has been done about it. Apparently we’ve signed over fifty players and now looking for our fourth manager. This highlights very poor decision making skills. The facilities used by the majority of normal fans are decrepit. However she keeps talking about big projects, both have lost the plot. Unfortunately the people will vote with their feet especially for next season

Sounds better than "we are just winging it really" 🙂

I always liked the idea of a DOF seemed to work at Stoke. However we would have far better if we kept Darrel Clarke than him.

Issue is also a very typical Vale issue of needing investment. It is Carols club I get that. However she always stated that they were just custodians in her own words.

It worked at Stoke when Rudge was doing it. They are in exactly the same situation as us now apart from they’ve wasted millions.

I agree he does, but so does Carol. I’d imagine she gave him no money in Jan, I doubt he just decided to not sign anyone.

Flitcroft has lost the fans and he's destroying the relationship between the fans and the Shanahans. His cowardice in not fronting things up last night and being in the dugout and facing the media should be the final straw. How can Carol still believe he's doing a good job when by every tangible measure he's failed yet doesn't seem to be accountable to anyone? As fans, we need to keep up the pressure until he's gone.

Most league 1 & 2 clubs have a DOF/technical director/sporting director (they’re all the same). Football has changed. It’s no longer reasonable to expect the manager to do everything, it’s too much for one person.

Also, in the past managers lasted a lot longer at football clubs. Now they’re lucky to last 2/3 seasons. Without a DOF you’d be completely overhauling the squad and play style all the time. It’s just not reasonable any more.

We should sack Flitcroft and get someone more experienced in the role.

The former manager was part of the problem. I don't just keep saying it because I don't like him as a person, I haven't met him to judge. He has history of blaming everything else when results go wrong for him and trying to spend his way out of it sometimes with farcical suggestions such as switching ends for the home fans. What a waste of money that was. That is what happened at Bristol Rovers, he kept asking for more until there was nothing left, he was doing the same at Walsall and is now doing it at Cheltenham. He basically wants everyone around him to say how wonderful he is and gets rid of anyone who dares to challenge it. He has no ability to manage difficult players, unfortunately they are the passionate ones who sometimes have that wonderful ability to excite crowds and do unbelievably good things on the pitch.

Yet he said at the Forum we had made megabucks from the sale of two youngsters this season. That can’t have been factored into the budget in the summer.

What happened at Bristol rovers was back to back promotions from the national league 🙄 he’s done an incredible job so far at Cheltenham in what was an impossible task to start with! Jeez let’s leave Darrell out of this we all know where the problem lies it’s at the top of this topic.
