I don’t like this “he gave the ref a decision to make”. Doesn’t mean he has to make the wrong one.

No, he made a mistake, as every one of our players did today.

We all boo him and he goes home to his family without running away from a potential assault.

I agree that’s a total rubbish statement and always has been. In that case we shouldn’t be tackling anyone then or the ref will have to make a decision

Ref was poor but they should have been 2 or 3 up by the time he gave the penalty. Unfortunately the 2 new lads look way off league 1 standard. Nice tidy players but bullied off the ball. Their midfield strolled around like they were playing in a testimonial. No attacking drive other than chislett but he's got no chance against quick strong defenders. At the end of the day you get what you pay for both with signings and wages. League 2 is calling !

I’m not in anyway condoning what that idiot did running on the pitch but when the ref makes that sort of mistake it affects the wages of those lads on the pitch and they have families who depend on them as well.

I said at half time they would get a penalty at that end. How did I know?

We will though. It was against a team from the South remember.

Think some may come down to whether we still have anything on record from the Swindon game as that could be viewed as an aggravating factor. What it did do was add some raw aggression to the home atmosphere which some have said has been lacking.

I haven’t watched it back and to be honest don’t see the point. If we got screwed nothing is going to change from it, we’re only Port Vale in many eyes. Truth be told that back line was begging for them to score all match. All three looked like they’d never kicked a ball together before and seriously rode our luck.

Don’t condone assault on the ref but they’d help themselves if the majority of them weren’t complete and utter bellends and so inept at their job. Also if they took more responsibility for their <ovf censored> decisions week in week out constantly ruining games of football. Obviously shouldn’t be getting attacked though.

How is he a complete and utter <ovf censored>? He made a mistake.

Is Dan Gore one for making mistakes when giving the ball away? Of course not.

The ref had a split-second to make a decision. He made the wrong one. I make mistakes at work every week, as will everyone in that ground.

It is a rubbish statement I agree but yes, unfortunately, the answer in the 88th min in a game you’re drawing when their player receives the ball in that position is, basically, do not tackle especially when (according to the Radio) their players had been trying to buy fouls all game and have apparently had the most penalties awarded in the division this season.

I think that’s the frustrating thing with us, once again managing to throw away points late in the game.

Thought Lofty put himself about a bit today - you all telling me he was poorer than the rest of our 11?

I’m not saying he was poorer than anyone else. IMO there were 5 others equally as poor as Ryan Loft but nobody worse. I’m not having this “put himself about a bit” as a defence for being totally devoid of ability. There are lads up the Knave who could wear a white shirt and put themselves about but no-one would condone paying them 2 or 3 grand per week or whatever he’s on.

Don't think I've been as embarrassed to be a Port Vale fan for a long time.

I'll start off by saying I think the ref was poor. He made some poor decisions. I thought the penalty decision was wrong and booed him afterwards. Having seen the clip back, it's never a foul on Chislett (just a strong tackle), and the penalty is hard to call. Kamara takes a touch around our player and he probably gets a nick on it before clattering the player. It's very clumsy. Probably not a penalty. Boo away, that's fine.

Despite this, I was absolutely disgusted that Vale fans were actively celebrating someone chasing him down in an apparent attempt to assault him. What would have happened if the ref didn't spot him, or didn't run away? Would you all be clapping like seals and guffawing if a man was assaulted for making a mistake at work?

It's gone huge on social media. There's a big fine coming - money probably straight out of the striker budget the same booing morons are clamouring to be spent. The individual himself was bad enough, but to hear/see Vale fans get more behind that than they did their team for the previous 90 minutes genuinely shocked me. Some lads were delighted. I've read a supporter on Twitter call the ref 'vermin'

The discourse around refs is getting out of hand. It isn't long till a ref actually gets assaulted for getting stuff wrong. We moan about the 'standard' of the referees (compared to where/when, I've always thought), but how on earth is going to improve if young refs are seeing this sort of event? I jacked in reffing after Gareth Owen was aggressive with me at Stoke academy - this is another level.

I don't like criticising fans, but I can't help it today. The ref probably made a mistake, but he's probably someone's Dad, brother, son, and mate. I'd hate to think one of my family had to run from possible assault because they made a mistake at work. To be so enraged because your football team has lost a game of football, justifiably or not (and we were cack today), speaks volumes about the unhealthy relationship some folk have with the fortunes of their football team.

Fundamentally, we weren't great today and if were are going to rely on the vicissitudes of lower league refs in order to get points, then we're going to struggle. Their keeper did nowt. We don't have any serviceable forwards. We're very close to the relegation zone and need points quickly. I didn't think about how the loanees mid-season are expected to adapt immediately, whilst Blaster had a pre-season. Gore looked like a player shoved into a game against top of the table with little prep. It's a gamble to expect them to contribute immediately. If this the strategy? Hoping five U21s adapt immediately from reserve football to the blood and thunder of League 1? Risky.

Really disappointed. I'd hoped we were better than that. Let's hope none of us make a mistake at work in the week.

Yeah, feel really bad about shouting nasty things at him now, think I should take him to a coffee house and buy him a sweet warm drink with marshmallows in to say sorry....hey ref, I'm ok, your ok.....

With all the furore over the ref has anyone posted about their keepers OTT celebrations?

Totally unnecessary after what had gone before. Vale fan managed to get over the wall to get at him but this time the stewards were awake.
