What's happening at Vale Towers? After so few goals at home in the first half of the season, now in the last four home fixtures, we've had two 3-2 results (one fir & one against) a 3-0 win and now a 3-3 draw. A total of 19 goals in 4 fixtures.  All of a sudden, Vale Park's the place for a goals' spectacular!

Have to agree there's been some entertainment recently. And if we are going to be a bottom half team who stay up (which I would have taken at the start of the season with the current squad and management) then I'd rather us do it with a bit of entertainment and excitement!

Credit to Uche and especially Massey today. Did really well and kept going

Nice to see anger from Crosby instead of his usual script like post match comments

The injury list is massively concerning though. We lose Chislett or Devine next and we are absolutely screwed

Couple of midfielders desperately needed in this window as well a striker and  a CB

Fair play to him 👏🏻 just a shame he's so inconsistent. Definitely seems a different player at times this season 👍🏻

The bar really is low when it comes to Massey. That can be the only explanation for people raving over him on here.

Really pleased for Uche, he’s deserved that goal and he worked his socks off as always. Maybe one day we’ll get a penalty for the constant fouls against him on set pieces.

Thought Wilson and Grant both looked useful. Chislett has become a very important player for us and Devine is fast becoming one.

The back 3 and even Ripley to a point need to have a long hard look at themselves. Woeful.

I think if we recruit 2 centre halves, a left wing back and a striker of decent quality then we’ll be safe.

Defending has needed to be sorted out for the last 2 seasons, but they still love watching opposition waltz through midfield and then defence.  Playing out from the back is just not working and yet AC and Co still want to do it.

You keep hammering your opinion about playing out from the back, but the truth is they were individual mistakes and could have happened whichever way we play? Mistakes are exactly that - they're enforced errors made by human beings. Not being able to get the ball out from between your feet can happen to any player.  The manager isn't going to change his preferred system because of a couple of whingers on here!

A  very interesting interview with Crosby. Probably doesn’t help Bowers with his interview but happy to see this side of him.

No excuses says it how he is. Blow about Ben long term injury

And we hardly played out from the back at all today. All goal kicks went long as did a number of Ripleys throws,

Being a big club for the league doesn't make them a good team though. They're only just above us in the league for a reason, and can't buy a win away from home.

Every team in the league will have two or three standout players somewhere in the side and they're no exception. 4 points from them in 6 is fine when you look at it that way. But today we still gifted them a draw.

They had pace. That always scares us.

Their defence was atrocious.

Charlton might be ex Premier and big budget but let's not that hide the fact they're amongst the weakest sides I've seen defensively in both games.

Definitely 2 points dropped. You play what's against you, not the name.

And Charlton are pretty crap aren't they.

Looking at the highlights, think Ripley might have done better with goals 1 & 3 ?

I thought so too just looking at the highlights - he really didn't look himself. What worried me was whether and how much that vile comment from the Carlisle fan has affected him. Ripley said at the time that their fan had no idea whether he was going through any sort of issues and their Chairman said Ripley was still angry and upset when he called him. These issues are really serious as anyone would know who has had any experience of depression or other issues.

Just hoping I am reading too much into it.

Apologies I've not read whole thread so this might of been touched upon.

Was anyone else shocked by the choice of penno taker ? Willo 100% so was genuinely shocked. Luckily didn't backfire but i wonder what the logic was ?

Agreed and today very poor as we had 1,000 more for Blackpool on a Friday night. Today was league 2 numbers and staying away because you don’t like Crosby is basically starving the club.

Most businesses suffer a drop in footfall in January.

In Vale's case, we've also had 6 of the last 8 at home, which is bound to have an effect  on gates; and we still have 2 of the next 3 at home...so 8 home games in the last 11 match days. That's quite an ask for fans at this time of year!

Whilst not for a moment would he be a League one CH . We have not properly had an upgrade on Martin.

Nor on Leon. A back four with a L1 equivalent of Legge alongside Smith plus two decent full backs and we would be so much more solid, especially on the wide open spaces of Vale Park. The thing is though we've recruited for one sort of formation only and that is making our ability to change tactics and game organisation so much more difficult.

So now, we're that much more easy to read and we've been royally sussed by too many teams. The first time I saw DC manage was against Walsall at home when as the away manager, he changed things around to beat our system. That, I thought to myself at the time (and little did I know) is just what we need.

But now of course that is relegated to the impossible, with virtually one way of playing and a loss of flexibility that plays into the opposition's hands. Well, for better or worse, we're stuck with it.
