Sutton Utd (H) EFL Cup match thread Sep 26th

Featured Replies

We've all seen a team at Sutton's current level. It was Port Vale a few years ago. We need to step onto the pitch and roll this team over withdrawing players after the score accumulates.

Not start with too many young players who can't match the one thing Sutton will be good at. Physicality.

Given the current state of Sheffield Utd, I hope they don’t even think of recalling Arblaster….

At yesterday’s game the Newcastle bench passed a note on to Sean Longstaff.

Better than that, at the final whistle down at the incinerator the Hull manager led their fans in a chorus of “You’re fookin sheet”…

I think Crewe are much better than Sutton, and we dealt with them comfortably. As long as we go in with a professional approach and a not too weakened team we should be ok.

The bottom line is that we are not on a big earner playing Sutton. Lose to them and we make no more money. Beat them and would could make a respectable profit depending on the Drawer for the next round. Also we've not been beyond this round if memory serves me right ,so it would be another tick for the Vale . Last but not least we are a professional club, playing at home against the current lowest EFL team........ If we cant take advantage of that then when are we going to progress in this Cup ?

I agree Crewe are stronger. But we didn't deal with them comfortably in the Carabao Cup by way of winning on pens!

In both our games v Crewe recently we've given the youth players a significant role. In my view we've been a bit lucky to get away with this and luck can only be pushed so far before it runs out.

I know it's difficult. The future of the club is linked to bringing young players through.

I agree Warren, field a strong team, get the job done then make substitutions.

Trouble is even if we play a strong team there are no guarantees we will win easily or even win… and what if we lose the services of Arblastrer or Ripley through injury or the game takes it out of players legs and the result is a poor performance at home to Bolton on Saturday in front of a large home crowd… and if we don’t play our back up players / young players against the lowest placed team in the efl then when do we play them?

I ve no doubt Crosby will get the balance right.

Could there be ET tomorrow, or does it go straight to penos if all square after 90 mins?

As we are short of strikers i wouldn't risk wilson for this one, maybe play Garrity up top on his own with Chislett and Devine just behind him.... although i fully expect Massey to be played as the lone striker for this one or if Thomas is fit now start him with Chislett and Garrity behind him.

Shows that there are still options out there even with a lack of strikers

I have a horrible feeling that they are going to come and stink the place out tomorrow, get it to 0-0 at FT, win on penalties, then draw Man Utd away next round. That would be so Port Vale.

Aston Villa would be nice.

I think ET is abolished. We went to pens at 90 v Crewe. If memory serves me right.

Garrity is scoring the goals. If we go down the protect the players route it's Garrity we should protect!

If Massey plays as lone striker we need the office to print him off a map so he can find his way to goal.
