Oxford (A) match thread Sep 2nd

Game 6 takes us to the early league leaders Oxford Utd who lost their first two games of the season losing to Cambridge 2-0 on the opening day and losing 5-1 at Bristol City in the Carabao cup but have won the last 4 games including a win at Barnsley.

Oxford fans are expecting a bumper gate and no doubt we will travel in numbers.

SVA..

Feels like a bogey ground. What’s our record there?

Lost all 5 times we have played at the kassam including that dreadful 4 nil game last season. Very likely we will lose Saturday but our target is 50 points and to avoid relegation that 6th place we are in is a false league position really.

It certainly is false we should have won at Blackpool and sit 2nd.

Cheers. I couldn’t recall us ever getting so much as a point there. Something always seems to fall apart.

I am a big believer in the law of averages and we’re well overdue getting something at the Kassam.

2-0 loss in 2017

4-0 loss in 2022

No idea what our record was like at the manor ground.

Think our last win at the Manor Ground so Oxford full stop was 96/97? Mills and Naylor when a young Darren Purse got sent off for them for a punch.

Didn't we play in the last game at the Manor as well? Think we drew back end of the LDV win season, may have been that week we had to play 4 times at the end.

Generally we have a poor record though can't remember us notching more than that Naylor and Mills inspired win even in our 90s glory days?

Looking at their forum it seems that they played OK first half against Charlton but were poor in the second half and got the winner against the run of play.

Also, 6 of the starting 11 were those who took them to that poor league position last year, with 7 in the previous match and 8 and 9 before that. So, that suggests that they have a potential stinker in them. Also got beaten easily by Cambridge on the opening day.

They seem to be always strong at home though, so we'll have to be at our very best to get anything. I'd snap your hand off for a draw.
