League One 23/24

Recommended Posts

Looks a more balanced League next year, the four that came up shouldnt trouble the top half but are by no means cannon fodder.

Losing Wednesday and Ipswich gets rid of two huge budgets and ironically MK going down is one that most seasons are at the top.

Reading and Wigan seem a bit troubled and Blackpool aren’t a huge budget.

Expect Derby to be the big spenders and Bolton and Barnsley should do well but outside that it’s all fairly open looking so far.

Looks overall a weaker league this coming season.

There is a pattern across the leagues

Prem = The least traditional 20 for a long time. Can see some heavy spankings being dished out.

Championship = Such a tough league. Gonna be really hard to call

League One = Quite open. Still some big teams, but 2/3 coming down are in dissaray and none of the teams coming up look any better than we came up with.

League Two = Toughest league 2 in years. Wrexham and Notts will go again. Stockport and Bradford might kick on and a few dark horses i.e gillingham

Don't think Gillingham are dark horses, they are the richest team in the league!

Well let's hope Stevenage,Exeter and Cambridge go up then.

What a strange post-we are relying on opposition fans to pump money into our club?

Football wise we can't compete? Sheffield scored a worldie to beat us at home,Ipswich just about beat us at our place and scored 5 mins from the end at their place to beat us and we beat Plymouth away.

No we can't compete. Didn't you notice we finished 40 points behind those 3 clubs?

By your analogy because FGR beat Wednesday then they can compete with them.

Might be worth remembering that Carlisle won't have a squad ready or have prepared professionally as they've come up through the play-offs and are a week or so behind everyone else.

That's how it goes, isn't it?

Ah we are going to beat the club with this stick today are we

I did notice yes. I've no idea why you've quoted FGR...you're suggesting I've said something I haven't.

I didn't say you mentioned them.

Crowds are vital to our budget. It's not beyond possible that our gates could be down 500 on average this season. That would be approx 250 grand. Good will factor gone from floaters. 2nd half season form. Loss of big away followings. All could be factors.

Hopefully it will stay the same but of course away support helps our budget.

A crowd of 11,500 v Sheff Wed compared to 7'000 v Barnsley is a shortfall. I'm not sure what you found so strange about my post.

The idea of going up the food chain is for bigger crowds and occasions.

Can't say I've ever got excited about a home game against Wycombe or Peterborough. However when the likes of Derby,Wednesday etc are here the whole day has an edge to it with atmosphere etc.

Your prerogative to find my post strange of course.

I made an off the cuff remark about the different revenue between yesterday's finalists and then you quote the 6 games against the promoted trio where we amassed 3 points from 18.

Big losses with those three going up but we still have Derby,Bolton and Pompey to rely on?

Good post and spot on .
I'll be looking at the fixtures this coming season and out of 23 home games there will be one with a huge away following Derby I see no one else but there the games you look forwards too the big ones .
Everyone else apart from Bolton Blackpool possibly lower than a 1000 followers I predict so money lost .

Thing is, you never know until the season starts to unfold. I mean, who'd have predicted Plymouth doing what they did and for us to play them at home the last match of the season?  An average Plymouth team on a January Tuesday night, doesn't pull in 12000.  Just hope next season, it isn't Stevenage,  at anytime.

Of course,  next season we won't be concerned about away followings, because we'll be top of the league and filling VP ourselves, not to mention pulling out three plum draws, on our way to the 5th round of the FA Cup.
