I think that's quite harsh. Two bad errors at Wembley, yes, but he improved a lot through the second half of the season. I would like to see him improve distribution significantly, but the signs are good that he is capable of pushing on at 23 (tomorrow). I wouldn't be concerned if he was still first-choice - but I do agree that I would like some very strong competition for him (and it sounds like he will get some.)

Yeah it is a bit harsh mate but unfortunately true

Absolutely Stone made a few errors, he also made some points winning saves.

Mansfield at home the 3-1 he tipped one onto the bar when they were swamping us for a period.

And having been right behind his save at Exeter, that save was outstanding and 1-0 down to a team going for the title may well of ended much differently.

He;s very young for a keeper, the contract extension and ultimate exit from the club of Covolan are more than enough justification for him being here. I do think he'll be second fiddle and Pizza cup and other cup games maybe, but criticism of him is nit picking.

Without Stone’s Penalty Save we wouldn’t even have got to Wembley.

Which ever Goalkeeper we sign, in my opinion Stone has to be Number 1 to start the season and any new signing should be told that they start as Number 2.

We should then get the right type of character that suits the Process.

Stone will be number 1 if the new keeper is not as good as him. As important as he was, he can't be guaranteed a starting spot based on what he did last season. What good keeper will come here to be backup?

I personally hope the new keeper is an upgrade.

Still not anything finalised then. Hopefully stuff this week and next.
Not sure everyone being in Spain for 9 days did us any favours on the signing front.

Do you honestly believe that we've missed out on a player because DF and Colin Garlic were in Spain?

If so, how?

I personally can't imagine any player would turn us down simply because they were invited to talk to the club via a Teams meeting.

Re this stuff about people not going to Spain: if you were a prospective signing you would want to meet the person responsible for selecting you and perhaps also the coaches. Likewise the manager would definitely want to meet with the prospective signing in a club where the management team are all pulling together. I don't think anyone wants the manager to be out of the loop on signings, do they? Or do you think Clarke should not have been at the pre-season training camp?

Not sure one bad half and you're out is a particularly good idea for any player, especially a goalkeeper.

Look I was behind stone as much as the next fan and sang his name numerous times but 2 mistakes like that in such a high profile game can not be ignored for me but that’s for clarke to decide on I hope he proves me wrong and goes on from last season and like I said some of his saves were excellent

Not going to trawl back and read what people said about Stone.

Simple fact was he was brought in after the Colchester defeat. Go and check out what happened from that day..

Enough said...

Exactly why would any Vale fan not want Stone to start against Fleetwood.

All this support for Blackman who most people won’t even have seen play and who is 29 years old in October and only played 110 League Games ?

I would love this as he is quality… but I can’t see it.

Crewe fan I know says he is absolutely quality  and that he's been on trial at Championship clubs and top end League 1 - Ipswich apparently.

Last he mentioned the other day was Wrexham were offering 4k

Iron, I think that’s where we’ve got to be now regarding players wages. It seems the wage gap from L1 to L2 is a big gap. The clubs ambition is to get in the Championship, imagine how much the wage bill will have to rise then.
