Much better performance , still believe the players ought to put the effort in every week whoever the Manager is.

Yes . I agree . Brilliant 3 points today . More of Games Like this . Please .

Nice to see we have 3 points and well done all those at Vale Park today.  The players showed they are willing to put a shift in and sprint to get back into places when they lost the ball.  Some of the players started playing again.

Won't get mega excited yet, as this is Vale after all.  But its a start to climbing the league again.  This was Grimsby and they are having a mare at the moment, so we should have taken the points.

Happy Vale fan tonight, like many out there.

That Synectic Hen Party certainly made some noise

They can come again

Decent performance that. I'm not going to dress it up as great, because it wasn't.

This wouldn't have happened before and the players were cream crackered and being beaten easily before.  Now we have fresh legs on and they will want to show they are willing to play for the new manager who ever that is.

Danny Pugh & Frank Sinclair maybe?

Decent performance that. I'm not going to dress it up as great, because it wasn't. However, the most notable things for me:

1. Defensively, we looked a lot more organised, holding 2 steady lines, pressing at the right points and mopping up stray passes as a result of keeping our shape well.

2. Hurst is becoming a little gem. Rodney too.

3. Monty not good defensively today. He's not the answer at LB. I, too, would have liked to see RCJ given a run out for 15 mins.

4. Joyce poor. Needs replacing asap.

5. We had a lot of luck offensively today, which we haven't had for a month or so.

It causes you physical pain to praise TP, doesn't it?

Well well all players playing at 7 out of 10 or more! Keep that up and we wont go far wrong. Got to wonder why we have only played at 4 out of 10 the last few games! Absolutely delighted with three points but more pleased with the effort and commitment its the very least the fans and owners deserve .

Great day, sjoke lost and shunters threw a good lead away.

Can wait for praise and grumble.  Shunter manager will be saying they were robbed no doubt by decisions against them.

For once looking forward to hearing the after match chat with our Manager.  Least it wont be monotone.

Happy vale fan tonight . Thank you vale . Keep up the Good work . .

Let hope .of Lots of more winning Games  to come from the vale .

442. Its amazing how much trouble you can cause teams with pace and arial threat with good delivery.

Grimsby where very poor today but I think that was more today with out attitude. High work rate but combined  with a bit of grit and determination. We even had more than 3 subs on the pitch before 80 minutes with variation. All the lads who came on gave exactly the same work rate and determination to see the game out and keep that clean sheet.

I think Theo Robinson summed that performance up when he came on. I've not seen much hard running from him since the beginning of the season but in 90th minute 3-0 up and he sprints the full width of the pitch to close players down.

Thats more like Vale!!!

Back to within 6points of play-off place, but played more games than most.

Inbetween very loud open mouthed chomping noises of chewing gum. I have to mute that Tramp when he comes on.

Good thing about that is that it gives Carol some time. If we'd lost, it'd all get a bit tight and tense and she might have been forced to pull the trigger quickly on some old, survival specialist to keep us afloat. This allows her some breathing space to carefully figure out her best move, which may or may not involve Pugh.

We can't get too carried away; Grimsby are absolutely atrocious and look in real trouble. However, in a week, Pugh seemed to get the basics right; playing Pope with a mobile partner, utilising his wingers, and a real commitment and aggression to the players. Hurst in particularly has an exceptional work rate, and combined with Conlon, Worrall, Monty, and the returning Gibbons, we suddenly look far more up for a scrap than in the last 13.

MOTM for me is Worrall for 3 goals created, but Hurst, Pope, Brisley, and Conlon were all good. It does raise questions as to where that endeavour has been in recent weeks, but let's not dwell. I was surprised at Burgess coming on ahead of Robinson/Cullen, but he looked better off the striker and his ball for the third was delightful.

Let's not be hasty - we've battered a truly awful side with a lot of returning, fresh, key players. However, it's a great start for Pugh and a sign he can at least organise a side and get players grafting, which is half the job in League 2.

Sit back, sift through the applications, vet them properly, and if in a week or two Pugh is still doing what he's done today, then the decision is made. Try and get Taylor in, and a centre half, and see what we can get out of this strange season.

Pleasant to enjoy a Vale game whilst Stoke and Crewe have nightmares - a rare occurrence this season.

A final conclusion from me is that Grimsby have an 'experienced' manager in, and today proves that achieving stuff in 2016 has little bearing on the specific challenges of Port Vale. Something to bear in mind as the appointment is made.

I don’t think pope should be praised. I find it quite shameful how players can put no effort in for weeks and as soon as a manager goes they all of a sudden put some effort in. I’m sick of popes articles and he needs to be moved on.
