Website on last season's budget

If the figures (and my maths) are correct, there are 15 teams in L2 whose wage bill is greater than ours - which doesn't look like a very competitive budget to me. No wonder Aspo said today that if he signed players for the Vale, they wouldn't be coming for the money. Not good reading when so many clubs can outspend us.

The figures quoted are average weekly wage, the budgets will vary dependent upon the squad size. With our numbers that could well push us to mid-table. Depends how you define competitive? Is that mid table or pushing for the POs? After last season, building up a squad can take a season or two. The main thing will be next seasons budget.

It’s an average weekly wage, our squad was one of, if not the biggest in the division so actually suggests it was fairly reasonable for the division.

It doesn’t tell a lot though (if accurate) because we could have had 15 players on £450 and 15 on £1500 for example. The overall total of the average x number of players it is divided by would paint the full picture. (And that we paid a lot for quantity over quality!)

As for competitive, the title winners had one of the lowest.

Its about the players and manager, not the budget. Fed up of hearing about the budget being this or that when noone on here actually knows. Its all conjecture.

I don't define it by being midtable L2. That would be an absolute travesty and an embarrassment.

**** off Norman you parasite.

Yes and those players and manager cost money. The only reason we don’t know our budget properly is because Smurfwaite has pulled a smoke and mirrors job over us.

Completely agree. With our fan base having a mid to low end league 2 budget is unacceptable with the income we generate. Especiallly as we were in league 1 the previous year.

If you look at squad size it suggests our player wage budget is around 1.5 million based on 30 players being our average squad size for the season but it may be more than that because looking at Wikipedia we’ve had 45 players this season some who signed in jan and some who left before and of course we don’t know if we were paying loan wages etc. So if this is correct 1.5 million would be the lower end of the estimate.

Without knowing each squad size though to get a basis on where we stand compared to the rest it’s hard to judge.

We had a bottom half budget and most of it was wasted by Brown the Clown. Feels like we've got more stability in terms of the football side now. If Aspo can fill in the gaps below with the right players we should be moving in the right direction.

Brown

Gibbo Smith gap Monty

Worrall gap Hannant gap

Pope gap

Bench:

Hornby

Gap

Pugh

Gap

Turner

Angus

Only in the mad, mad world that is professional football can such abject failures be rewarded with such mind blowing salaries.

Even at our more realistic level, Chesterfield players “earn” £1200 a week to take their club into non league.

When you see figures like these throughout all the 4 leagues, it is not difficult to see why the older generation get so disillusioned with the game and simply drift away.

Money has ruined football, none more so than in the Greed Is Good League.

Everyone thinks they know what the budget is and should be on this site. Bottom line no one other than Aspin, Rudge, Garlick and NS.
