All I am saying is we can't do anything about nutters from other clubs but we need to do something about ours. It is because Grimsby have this reputation that so many of our lunatics went to the game. I hate being associated with them. As Smithy said, the atmosphere was great with loads of singing but then it had to be spoilt by that idiotic behaviour. It happened last year against Bolton and Sheffield United - that was nowt to do with Grimsby fans.

Come off it Jean,Bolton and Sheffield were completely complicit, and are up for it wherever they go.Let's all take of those rose tinted glasses.

A lot of them yesterday weren’t old. But they clearly have the 70s and 80s mentality. This will over shadow what was IMO in the main a decent away performance.
Spot on !Best take a look at the social media posts, as it looked organised thugs were involved.

I don't doubt that for a minute but was there trouble at all the other 22 away games those two played?

You need to get of your high horse madam and wake up. We have problems amongst the young society today of sure you are aware of ,were you not a school teacher?

I was indeed a school teacher some years ago and I got fed up to the back teeth of kids trying to excuse their misdemeanours by saying "he was doing it as well".

It astonishes me at the apparent age of some of these yobs, there were plenty dancing up and down on Saturday who looked to be in their 40's, 50's and 60's with large bellies and the athletic ability of a herd of hippos. These people ought to know better, do they realize just how stupid they look.

Pope's prematch article in the Sentinel is a work of art.

Nerves can especially affect younger players. They have to look to the example of Michael Tonge who doesn’t panic on the ball and will show some composure whatever the state of the game.

It's less than you think. This season there's only been yesterday and Cheltenham at home which was a consolation goal for them.

Last season there was Oldham at home, Gillingham away, and late goals at home to Peterborough and Sheffield United which didn't affect the outcome of the match.

Thank you--I'm amazed if those stats are accurate! My perception is that there were many more than that. However, I have to accept that is just a perception and I haven't got any more facts to back the argument.

According to the police who boarded our coach as we neared Grimsby, there was 80 vale fans who had been drinking in Cleethorps since 6am, my guess it’s the same ones involved in the trouble.

Went with a Grimsby mate and went for fish and chips before the game in Cleethorpes which was crawling with Police but there were none inside the ground. Asked him why and its because of a dispute over the policing costs, so stewards only inside the ground. Heard someone ask why they opened the gates by the Vale fans, guess it was to usher them out onto the streets where the Police were,

I don't think that these yobs are regular suporters,we seem to have a small group who go to a few home games when an away following is expected and attend some away games for the beer and fighting.when I heard there was aggression being shown on the pitch I knew it wasn't the players anyway.
