Match Thread: Cheltenham Town v Port Vale

I actually find it deeply offensive that ForUsAll and Howjy04 have come on here in the midst of an absolutely dire run of performances and only see fit to criticise the fans.

What I find offensive is trying to correct what is clearly not correct and then have to read fairytales on here, mostly Grimm, and get accused of all sorts by yourself and others.

Cool, can you kindly correct the fact we haven't won (and not deserved to) in 2018 or is that a fairytale too?

Correction Aspin wanted to extend it until the summer and Gunning wanted a 2 year deal which we didn’t want to give him.

What's your evidence for this?

It doesn't make sense: after Gunning had gone on a two year deal Aspo said the club should have done more to keep him. The only thing they could have done was to meet FGR's offer. So that means one thing: Aspo wanted to match FGR's terms to keep him i.e. on a longer term deal.

So, where's the evidence that Aspo didn't want him on a longer term deal? Unless, of course by "we" you mean Norman. Please tell us.

Ah right again you know better than someone involved in the actual transfer deal and decision making process. Standard.

So, if you know what went on, speak up and put your critics to shame. What you can't do with any justification is to post on here, tell people they're wrong because you're in the know, and then refuse to say. Sorry, Mattholl, but that's not on.

Sorry but fans are not blameless in the fact that most have completely unrealistic expectations set intheir own head, read into things and then consoling that their own personal little pipe dream didn’t happen. On OVF the cup is always half empty and it would be even if we were in the premier league

I think every fans expection is higher than losing 5 - 1 to Cheltenham. Unrealistic.

I think not!

Aspin said on the radio that they wanted to keep him till the summer and look at the situation with the whole team then.

You’re missing the point my expectation is that we don’t lose 5-1 to Cheltenham, however I didn’t expect us to go and buy top league 2 players in January. Which a lot of people seem to have thought was what was meant by ‘backing the manager’

Looked about right to me, tho I have some sympathy for Smith and Raglan when they have Kay and Tonge in front of them.

We saw what happened today when Kay and Tonge were taken off, loss of shape, loss of protection for the back four, loss of a major part of the spine of the team. bad decision to take Kay and Tonge off.

Try using your eyes and your ears. ASPIN HIMSELF HAS TALKED ABOUT ALL THE RUMOURS ON THE RADIO TODAY AND SAID THAT THEY LOOKED AT RICKY MILLER AND THAT THE DEAL WAS DEFINITELY NOT IN THE INTEREST OF PVFC. I’m not in the know Aspin himself says it was a bad deal and he was in on the talks himself. Yet Hagrid thinks he knows better

No chance of that, the Northern Premier League is looking more likely.

When did he say that? And what exactly did he say? Just that or more? That's important because his last statement on the matter was to the effect that the club hadn't done enough to keep him, which, as I posted earlier could only mean one thing.

Your earlier post is also interesting because you said "Aspin wanted to extend it until the summer and Gunning wanted a 2 year deal which we didn’t want to give him."

A nice distinction between "What ASPIN wanted" and what WE didn't want to give him". So who is "We"?

The game changed when their 2nd goal went in, they were no great shakes, I thought Vale had the best of the play in the first half. The 2nd goal was a pure farce and the 1st one was not much better. When Tonge went off the team fell apart. Whitfield looked as though he'd been fouled just on the edge of the area and the ball broke to their forward who smashed it past Lainton who appeared to be busy appealing for a foul rather than playing to the whistle.

When Kay was taken off Vale well and truly fell apart, IMHO a 5-1 scoreline flattered them. The next few if not all the remaining games are massively important, Vale need the experienced players like Kay and Tonge on the field. I'd revert to the 4-2-3-1 system that bought some success.

Heaven knows what Aspo can do with the defense although I'd start by putting Boot back between the posts, either that or sign an out of contract experienced keeper.
