The Stoke City Topic Thread: Relegation? Staying up? Manager? Empty seats

The immediate loss is £50 million at least. The loss of TV and other rights v the payment made to relegated teams. So that is at least £50 million going out of the Stoke on Trent economy.

You mean going out of the football club?

I don't deny that community activities/charity work will be descaled, but suggesting that the entire TV money the club earns goes, in one form or another, back into the local economy doesn't seem right.

Stoke on Trent is suffering economically. That is obvious to me from when I come back to it and from living in a much more prosperous area. For example, it is way behind in comparison to Merseyside, to Greater Manchester, to Nottingham and other places. Walking round, particularly between Hanley and Longton it needs to attract a lot of reinvestment. So losing Stoke's status is a serious blow.

Watch the redundancies start at Stoke immediately. That will be obvious with highly paid players leaving and less obvious with cut backs in service providers employed or contracted. That will filter through the economy. In addition Stoke has lost its international TV profile.

This would all be fine Warren, if the Lardies had ever showed any interest in or fellow feeling for the Vale. Just think what two really successful clubs could do for the city. But no, they’ve only ever tried to damage us (notably during the Ted Smith era) or wilfully ignore us (when was the last time we had a promising Stoke youngster on loan - has it ever happened?). Then, when we did better them under Rudgie, it was unforgiveable. Their sense of superiority and entitlement turned into vicious hatred, though I suspect they are more insecure than superior.

I’m all for getting on with our neighbours but they really take the biscuit. Now they can eat it.

Ah. The community team.

The community that the Coates care so much about.

The community team funded by the money from Sky no doubt.

If the Coates care so much about our community I suggest they do not let this suffer at all.

Lets see them support the community team first and foremost

Then they can support the manager and team with however much money is leftover.

Its a bit like how Stoke never want to put the match day prices up /

season ticket prices up. " Our loyal fans deserve so much "

Lets wait for next season hey. !!

Pegging season ticket prices, issuing free shirts to kids, free travel, its easy when you are given millions.

If they didn't do all of this the players would only have more £

Stoke have set up a lot of teams in the community for people with disabilities, mental illness and done a lot of working with the disadvantaged across the county. You're right I hope that side of things doesn't get affected but I wasn't on about giving away free shirts.

Well maybe when I say I’m from Stoke On Trent and they reply I know Stoke City I get really pissed off. I am not from Stoke City but Stoke On Trent home of the pottery industry, like Wedgwood and Royal Doulton, home of Reginald Mitchell not some place where poxy bunch of inbreds who wear red and white shirts with their bellies hanging out. They offer very little to the local economy other than the local pubs on a match day and some hotel rooms booked up by away fans but they will still have the business no matter what division Stoke are in, in fact they may get more as they will play more games the lower they go.

Happy days, take it up with Staffs Uni they did the donkey work

So you think that Stoke City were what, just on the brink of heavy investment into Longton and Hanley? As bizarre as ever Warren.

The immediate loss of £50 million you talk about will not be going out of the Stoke on Trent economy,it will leave Wychwood Park, Alderley Edge, Wimslow,Prestbury and believe it or not Manchester and players agents to suggest otherwise is ridiculous.

I don’t see any true reset going on just some stats showing the revenue of the club. It doesn’t show any full stats for how this money filters through to the local area.

Stoke have had 10 years in the Premiership. So what good has that done for these areas you mention?

Reading that, it suggests the clubs lose the money not the City they are based in.

Why don't Sky give S-O-T council £5 million for the next 3 years to help with the perceived loss'especially if services and investment are going to collapse because a football club got relegated.
