Why Ainsworth?

There are quite a few on here who seem desperate for us to land Gareth Ainsworth as our next manager. I've mentioned it in another thread but I find this quite puzzling. He's a quintessential mid-table league 2 manager (finishing 15th, 22nd, 4th, 13th and 9th in his 5 seasons as a manager), no (proper) experience of managing at a bigger club, in a higher league or one with expectations of promotion, not particularly renowned for instilling thrilling attacking football in his team and, whilst he was a superb player for us, I don't think that anyone would give him a second glance if he hadn't played for us and wasn't 'cool'. People are shouting for an experienced man yet also wanting a guy who has only managed for 5 years. Don't get me wrong, I like Ainsworth but there has to be better out there.

I've been told that Ainsworth is a bit of a figurehead at Wycombe.

They have a very good coaching structure and staff in place and just bringing him in on his own wouldn't work.

I dont think he wants to leave there now

Those saying not him,i would be interested on who they would like? because imo you can now forget people like Adkins, cotterill, coleman, davies etc.....we could be looking at the likes of Stubbs,Edinburgh,Westley,Askey and i am sorry but i would take Ainsworth over them no problem

Same for me. I hope we can attract a manager with experience though.

We can't go for the cheap option anymore.

You mean your mate Smurf wants the cheaper option and doesn't want to pay to get a real up and coming manager with ambition, your mate would rather get someone who is closely attributed to the work for free almost category...it wont work and if he gets it wrong this time he will have a lot of unhappy people knocking on his door

If he is offered the right money he will come to Vale Park and bring his coaching staff with him...amazing what a decent sum of money can do

....sort of assumes that money is the be-all-and-end-all for him. From what I've heard and read about him in the recent past, I got the impression that this isn't the case with him.

He wouldn't be anywhere near my top 5 - what has he really achieved?

If Vale/Norman has designs of getting out of this league (up and of course not down) he needs to be looking at a manager who has been there and achieved promotions.

I'd like to see Steve C given the job. Wealth of experience few promotions under his belt, he's been in the championship for a few years - so he would not be the cheap option and would be looking to Norman to finance a 'proper' promotion challenge - that means more financing of better players....
