Has joined our coaching team as goalie coach.

Good addition?

Sent from my LG-D855 using the onevalefan mobile app

I think with the age (and potential) of our goalkeepers the coaching of them is important so it's good to see a coach coming in. He's only just starting out as a coach so I don't think any of us can say whether he'll prove to be a good addition or not but fingers crossed he'll help the likes of Alnwick progress even more.

I think he's doing it as a "favour" so I guess he has the incentive to impress and make it work but should he not be the answer at least we haven't committed to contract etc.

According to the Sentinel we have also taken on Andy Leaning as goalkeeping coach on a more permanent basis.

What's really amazed me is that Johnson is older than Alnwick and Boot is only a year younger! The gulf in standard between the three of them is startling considering they are all roughly the same age

Didn't realise this! What I will say though is that Alnwick is the best keeper in this league and has played at the top level briefly. His form is at its peak right now whereas Boot has only just made his debut so it is hard to judge. Johnson just doesn't seem up to this level and sadly after a dream debut has played a few times but been deemed not good enough.

I think this is further evidence that Michael Brown is asserting his authority but more importantly making good decisions. To have a keeper of this pedigree to help our young players has to be positive. For Chris Kirkland it is an opportunity to forge a career as a specialist GK coach, and for Port Vale it gives the club a chance to assess the situation without issuing a contract.........yet!

I am more and more confident that Michael Brown will help move us forward. I said as soon as Bruno left that I would be happy with Michael as his permanent replacement. It cannot be long until our Chairman decides to make him our permanent manager at least until the end of the season.

Former England international; probably in top 5 English keepers, at one time and (maybe?) still fit and good enough to register as a player, as an excellent emergency stand-in...not sure how this can be anything but a good signing?...but, I'm sure some of you will find a reason?

Bringing in a coach of this quality is a very positive move, our keepers will have nothing but the greatest respect for Kirkland because of the level he played at and of course played for England.

TBH, when I saw the headline on ovf "" Brown boosts coaching staff with former England keeper" I was expecting to read something like former u18 or u21 keeper not a full England player.

He has as many full caps for England as Ryan Shawcross does.
