Whatever anyone says, other clubs' grounds had more ice and snow than us and managed to play.

Someone somewhere didn't want this game played.

Not sure that someone didn't want it played but given that we have a clay based pitch do we have the best covers we should have and do we put them on early enough? Just wondering

It would have been the soil that came with the land in the 1940s. To sort the pitch out you'd have to dig down very deep. It would probably be ridiculously expensive and not do-able in a close season.

Don't know if its been mentioned as I hav'nt trawled thru all the posts but in recent years didn't we have the top soil off and put sand base down, its when all the caravans were up there like a seaside caravan park. It always looks good compared to others on tv and late in the season its still got grass on it especially the goal mouths...(could it have been tactical).

Years ago they played in much worse conditions than this. If it snowed they'd use an orange ball, mark the lines in blue and get on with it. Even a bit of mud and rain didn't put them off, splashing through the puddles and sliding tackles galore.

Remember either late 60's/early 70's in the FA Cup vs Chester, 2-3 inches of snow on the pitch, uncovered the touchlines and painted 'em blue and played. We lost 2-1.

It's an absolute joke that the pitch inspection was so early today. 11am would have been fine to inform any travelling to the game from a distance away. There's no way the pitch was frozen this afternoon (seems to be the official reason given). It would doubtless have been a wet pitch but surely not waterlogged. There again, referees are not know for making good decisions!

The ref was coming from Somerset so a local ref camein at 9am (which was far too early)so the ref didn't have to come up from Somerset. The pitch was sand slitted a couple of years ago as a cheap option to prevent it holding water.

According to Jean the covers were on on Thursday so we're they removed later to allow snow to accumulate on the pitch.

The melting snow caused the pitch to be waterlogged on Saturday am.My question is was the pitch playable at 3pm Saturday afternoon? If so the pitch inspection on Saturday morning should have been delayed or another inspection made later.
