I really liked him before he became manager as I thought he would be a dynamic young manager.

 

It quickly became apparent he favoured certain players who weren't of sufficient standard and played some absolutely turgid stuff which really initially created the disinterest of fans.

 

I was glad to see him go and I'm not shocked he's been found out and damaged quite dramatically the resurgence of a club that ran away with their league last season, had their chairman watched many of any of our games last season he would have known he wasn't the man for them.

What really is tragically sad is that to big up your argument and make a point, you really convince your self-important ego that the modest amount of compensation Smurf disgustingly got for Page is worth swapping a top half side that was developiong for the absoulute shambles and disaster we have now.

 

Hurtling headlong towards relegation, with 1 goal scored in 5 games and the lowest number of shots of all 92 clubs, no players who have scored more than a few goals, a midfield that wouldn't trouble the girl guides, a massively divided fan base (what is left of it) and a fast emptying ground. Humiliated in the FA Cup, beaten by L2 clubs in the League Cup and Checkatwot trophy.

 

A huge squad of players, of whom at least 8 and probably more wish they had never heard of Smurf, Bruno or Port Vale, and a smirking Jose Maureenho who made our club look stupid by recommending the most useless manager this side of Uranus to a gullible chairman only to willing to snap up such a bargain.

Oh well, quality not quantity eh ?

 

Still, no doubt you'll find someone else to blame other than Smurf when we go down. Time to turn on Brown yet, or get a couple more player scapegoats to join Kelly who you hate for no reason ?

Not to worry though, old-REP mate, we did get 85p compensation for Page that made our chairman look good, eh ?

Why is it that almost every thread on this site descends into personal slanging matches? I come on here to debate - as in exchange different views - on the Vale (mainly, and occasionally other topics).

 

Anyway, Page, I never like to see someone sacked but it was hardly a shock considering their expectations after such a good season last year and that by all accounts his style of play had become similar to that he put in place here, as in proper mid table stuff. I was happy with what he did after picking up from Adams but if he'd stayed this season would have meant he had to show some serious improvement, especially on the entertainment front and away from home. Maybe he knew he was unlikely to deliver that? And what Smurf said about cutting his budget to get him to leave was like something from Monty Python, too silly for words and laughable, true or untrue. I reckon Page will turn up next at a lower half L2 side with a very limited budget.

I tend to agree with you, I don't think he's as bad as some made out. Some people love to crow over other people's misfortunes. I thought Page was a good bloke and only this season he said some nice things about the Vale ("forever grateful for them giving me my chance" etc).

 

But having said that, he clearly didn't suit Norman's style (which is a vital relationship) and has now dented his CV with his spell at Northampton so he does deserve some criticism.

 

I for one don't like the joy some get from baiting former

 

players and officials.

Rumour is that Bruno was seen at Northampton and his mate Moreno has recommended him for the job.

He has said he can only improve the team if they allow him to sign the players he signed for Port Vale.(I wish)

Its nothing to do with getting joy from attacking him. I hated watching the football played by his team so much that I stopped going. After fifty odd years that took some doing. Good riddance.

Its time people bought a new book rather than staying on the same page, he did a good job compared towhere we are now, not everyones favourite he did his best & got moved on yet bruno was worse yet no where near the personal hatred- to single out his sacking as though he was the only manager ever to be sacked is just making evidence fit the crime.

 

We dont know what had gone on behind the scenes or what restrictions were applied to either manager with signings(who made them) and actual budgets,
