Vale's ground

All's it takes is for Smurf to use his business contacts to sponsor a new ground, something that is viable, sustainable and fit for purpose in Vale's case would be a new mini stadium of no more than 15,000 fans.

The ground could have numerous sponsor advertising deals combined as part of a long term finance funding, and the stadium could then attract big pop concerts to further pay for itself. The sale of Vale park to property developers (Hopefully social housing which is badly needed) would give a significant finance contribution. Simply put, I think a 15,000 stadium is a realistic prospect. But there needs to be some ambition shown from the owner, and that ambition at the moment is non existent

After looking at some of the breathtaking stadia in Euro 2016 to date particularly the Stade velodrome at Marseille ..it got me thinking how droll outdated and years behind Vale are in only having the uncompleted old style stadia with no style or appeal to it. I notice that many of Vale's smaller rivals such as Scunthorpe Rotherham and Chesterfield have improved their stadia or looking to and get a bigger fan base than us.

So given that Vale charge more than any smaller team in league one and given we are a poorer area would it not make sense to at least abandon Vale park, start a building of a mini Velodrome (It could be a mini one) and that may attract a bigger fan base given that we may at last have toilets that are a plenty in supply, kiosk which are plenty in supply and not have to wait to get in one small little hub of three toilets and sharing with 2-3k people in the paddock?

Simply put I think it's time we called it time on Vale park...look at Marseiile's stadium on Google earth and you will see what I mean. Vale park is outdated not fit for purpose and does not keep up with the times. Any one agree with this?

speaking to someone who was at the game in Marseille, he said it was a **** hole, the toilets weren't finished and the area round the ground was a worse slum than the slums in Brazil.

Well done on bringing the figures from nearly 30 years ago, but the Championship is a different ball game now, and attendances as you will see in the present are double and with some even trebled

What David preston posted was correct, your reply was totally wrong - people like you always pluck false stats from God knows where that are totally wrong - then open the post with sarcastic putdown remarks.

Sorry to spoil your strident stance with the facts but the second tier average gates for 1989 and the next few seasons were 15,001, 13,665, 14155, 14337 and 15257 - fairly consistent around the 14000-15000 mark.

Last season only 6 teams got above 20,000 average (so where are your double and treble the gates - well done you too) and the average was about 17,000 - just a very, very modest increase. 13 of the teams had an average of under 17,000.

Try to do some research and not make wild guesses and offhand comments unless you can back them up with some actual facts next time.

Where will the 3-4K Sheff Weds, Birmingham, Leeds, Wolves, Forest, Derby, (and possible Villa and Newcastle in a couple of year still), fans go in this little 10K stadium that you will be happy with in the Championship?

How many 10k crowds have we had in the last 5 years? I'll provide you the answer - twice and one of those was a one-off promotion party. When in business you plan for the usual not the exceptional.

Cheaper option not yet mentioned. Level railway side. Move the pitch over closer to the main stand and build a new smaller but higher rake stand close in on the edges of the two ends. That probably almost halves the acreage making a nice tighter ground where we can get behind the team better. That does away with the most decrepit bit of the ground in one go. Also, people don't need any more reasons to stop going. 20 pubs ten minutes away is what all these new grounds don't have. Who would want to walk to a rubbish, flat pack , off the peg stadium a la Shrewsbury every home game. At least now you can leave the pub at 2:45. Who wants to pay to park at home games and drink tramp's p I sh from a plastic cup? Swap vale park for a concrete skip by the D road? No ta. Be careful what you wish for.

Interestingly I was leafing through the football ground guide of 1998 and it describes Vale Park as being "one of the best grounds outside the premier league". It goes on to talk about it being our last season before the Lorne Street will push "Vale Park into the 21st century" and give us a stadium befitting of rivaling their local rivals.

It goes on to talk about our "excellent toilets" and "exceptional pies".

How times change...

Try and do some Research hahahaha, try going home and away every season for 30 years and actually seeing the changes for real!!

And how many Championship sides were getting 20K crowds the last time Vale were there? You say 13 teams have a current average of 17K. Most teams in the Championship 30 years ago were barely half that. Even Newcastle were only getting 17K crowds compared to their now 52K crowds, West Brom were only get 13K etc etc. Only difference now is that a lot of those 1st Div teams (now Championship) have been to the Premier League or are ex Premier and never got back and have kept the fans they gained.

If you think that Wolves, Derby, Forest, Sheff Weds, Birmingham, Villa, Newcastle, Leeds, would not fill out current away end in today's football then your eyes are completely closed or just plain naïve.
