Retained list

I believe Page sees every player for about an hour, whether they are staying or going and lets them know the reason for his decision. I believe he also spends the same time with the under contract players and goes over goals for the next season and what they need to do over the summer. To me its just good people management. I think it was paper talk that the retained list would be out today.

Why are supporters wetting themselves? Please tell me what difference knowing today or Friday makes. Oh is it a few hundred fans are desperate to buy season tickets?

I think not, FFS calm down !

Totally agree same old posters flapping and making a fuss out of nothing. Its embarrassing!!

So fan's have been waiting all day to hear this important news.We then get told after 17:00 by Lee Blakeman from Radio Stoke the list is 'EXPECTED' to be out by the end of the week.

I flicked over to the 'Official club website' and guess what there was nothing on there about it.

If nothing else the running of the club, the communication from the club the contradictions from the club it gives us something to laugh about.

Who said it would be today? I saw no offical statement about it unless i missed it.

Maybe because they were told it would be announced today.

Where your theory has a hole in it is,

1 you have to pay the wages of the loan player

2 clubs often charge a loan fee

3 you have to put them up in a hotel which costs money

4 they aren't always players available in the position you have an injury

5 knock out the first year pros who are on very very little and we didn't have a big squad last year .... so get rid of 10 and bring in 4 won't give us a team plus 7 on the bench

In answer to each point :

1) of course you do but what's that got to do with anything. Also, some clubs pay part of the wage.

2) again not always

3) no you don't. Ikpeazu was renting up the road from me. You can only have long term loans now, they're not going to be put up in a hotel for 6 months.

4) true but you try and cover most positions and if you have so many injuries then it's just bad luck. It happened to Gillingham this season but didn't happen to Burton for example

5) I never said only bring in 4. I said bring in 4 for the first 11 and then supplement with loans.

...I dread to think what the reaction will be like if we have to wait until the last day (according to the League roles) for having to notify players of any offer/terms/release... that would be the 21st May !!

1. You can get all the wages paid if you take a 19 year old nobody wants, but players who can get in to the first team you normally end up paying the whole lot - its a wage from the wages budget. This year Inniss was one of our highest earners and we paid his wages while he was getting treatment at Palace and they had it written in the agreement that they decided if he was fit and ready to play.

2. agree, but you will for better players

3. Ikpeazu was living there, who was paying the rent ... it still comes out of the same pot, part of the playing budget

4. Burton used 25 players, Gillingham 26 we used 26

5. Goes back to the point that for the better loan signings you'll still pay the wages, often a loan fee and rent for a room or hotel - no player who has accommodation near their parent club is going to move on loan for the same wage and then pay rent out in Stoke for another house near Vale Park out of their own wage. Scrapping the emergency loan market means you actually need more contracted players, because you've got to have cover in every position because you can't just go out and find a leftback if yours gets injured and you haven't got squad cover. We could fill our squad with youth team/ first year pros from the top 2 leagues who aren't wanted by other clubs quite cheaply, but very few of them ever make it to division 1 or 2 regulars - hardly any make it in the higher leagues.
