Going with my Mrs, she's a Wolves fan and supporting Walsall tomorrow. Don't think you would have any Stoke fan supporting us if we could get promotion to the same division.

always considered vale and scumsbury as our true rivals. hate is an over used word but in a football context I was brought up to 'hate' vale. some of my earliest memories of following Walsall away in late 70s and early80s were being scared shitless about the 'welcome' we got at vale park. went on special train (remember them?) once and vale piled out of every pub we passed, was glad of the old bill escort!

 

its always a big match against you lot, but this sunday is bigger than usual, we might just do it. if we don't then we will celebrate a season beyond our expectations.

 

my dislike of you lot mellowed a couple of years ago. we did a sponsored walk from Walsall to vale in aid of a lifetime saddler Julie who lost her battle against cancer. it was a long walk!! but hats off to the vale fans, they donated generously and pushed our fund up by a few hundred quid. respect.

 

we sold 3100 at last count so hopefully we will sell our 3900 allocation. it will be loud. UTS

id play dodds but he is out Grant suspended ,and yatesy maybe didnt do enough at Scunthorpe stay in mind u i wouldnt know judging by the result ( performance also according to me lad who said they were lifeless ) none of them deserve to play on this sun.

Just hope the atmosphere is top notch and maybe because the saddlers have sold over 3000 tickets more Vale casuals will turn out .

My team would be (4-2-3-1): Alnwick; Purkiss, Streete, McGivern, Dickinson; Brown, Foley; Moore, Kelly, Leitch-Smith; Hooper

 

I know the front line is a little forced but Leitch-smith can play out wide if needed as he did it for Crewe. I don't agree with some of VFIA's wacky line ups but I do agree with him on Sam Kelly. I'd love to see him in that number 10 role as I think he could do a bit of damage, plus he is comfortable collecting the ball from wide positions if necessary.

 

O'connor for me is probably gone after this season so 2 terriers in Foley and Brown in the middle could work well. McGivern over Duffy purely for the left foot. Must admit I don't thinks there's a whole lot of difference between McGivern and Duffy in terms of quality.

Port Vale Club secretary Bill Lodey has issued the following message to supporters coming to this weekend’s game against Walsall…

 

What we want to do is allow both sets of supporters to enjoy the end of the season."

“It’s the last game of the season, a big game for Walsall, who have had a good season and that, by it’s own implications, brings with it end-of-season celebrations,” he said.

 

“What we want to do is allow both sets of supporters to enjoy the end of the season. Both teams have had good years, them slightly better than us.

 

“But, nevertheless, our plans are that after the game the Walsall team and management will stay out to thank their supporters for their ongoing support throughout the year.

 

“We would ask the Port Vale supporters to give them the opportunity to do that and then themselves wait for Rob [Page] and the lads to come out.

 

“At the end of the day we were one of the favourites to go down. We haven’t. We’ve proven everybody wrong and the team and the manager would like to thank the supporters.

 

“The catch is, we can only do that if everybody stays off the pitch and behind the barriers so we can do it safely, everyone can enjoy the end of the season, go away and have their summer and look forward to August.”

Would be nice if people did adhere to the request. Can't see too many wanting to run onto the pitch to be fair but you never know. Would be nice if they didn't block the gangways too, I want a quick escape so I can get back down to Burslem for a few end of season beers.
