The Torch in Tunstall was a brill Northern Soul venue and one of the most well known clubs in the UK in the late 60's/very early 70's.

 

Later in the 70's The Place, Placemate (Sammi Belles), Maxims and the Cheshire Cat in Nantwich were all fantastic places to go for a night out, all well run and hardly saw any trouble, in the 70's S-o-T must have had some of the best night life in the UK and people came from all over the country to the above clubs. The Placemate also opened on Whitworth St in Manchester on the site of the closed Twisted Wheel, it also was a brill place to go. Spent too much of my late teens and early 20's in those establishments.

I miss the big name acts who appeared at the gaumont... stones, hendrix, beatles... they werent big names then though

 

The Walker Bros and Cat Stevens were on the same bill as JH.Remember Trentham Gardens ? The Who and Led Zep.

Me too:D I believe there is some talk of the Torch opening up again.Not sure where.My sis has just spent the weekend in Blackpool.Northern Soul All nighters at the Tower Balllroom.She said there were 18 year olds and 70 year olds on the same dance floor.:D

Stafford County Showground. Saw Abba there and if I recall also the Stones?

 

Swan Pub in Trent Vale used to host good local talent too and I saw a Mark Knoffler tribute singer there a few times and also at the Pub near to Cherry Tree in Newcastle. He was fantastic but can't recall his name. In my "hey day" as a mod on my Lambretta I saw Erroll Brown and Hot Chocolate in Hanley at the Cine Bowl!

I saw one of the best ever concerts I've seen at the HSM,Junior Walker and the Allstars.Used to go the Top Rank on Saturday mornings as a kid and on Tuesday nights when a bit older.I saw Tull,Chicken Shack,Black Sabbath and a few others at the TR.What a place S-o- T and Newcastle used to be for entertainment.

That was a cracking venue.I saw The Jam's last concert there.

That was a great show JA.Peter Gabriel dressed in a fox's head with Genesis,Fleetwood Mac etc.Great nights.

What was the name of that massive toy shop in 'Castle which was on the roundabout where the Trinity Court flats are now? Jolly Giant or something?
