Lofty is Off

Recommended Posts

Maybe that's to do with always having to play with 2 or 3 men marking him yet still managing to create goals as well as chip in with 9

Most of them would have been penalties. For me jmw disappointed last season, more often than not he didn't turn up, his performances often lacked effort and he cost us quite a few goals. On his day he was excellent, Shrewsbury at home he was class. But last season this was very uncommon. Much more bothered about losing loft than him but both are replaceable.

Another good day for the Vale, an ordinary injury prone player who always gave his all, but give me a Ray Walker or Ian Bogie any day who didn't need to look like they tried hard to get results. Closer to his family??? What a joke, it's his chuffing job to be away from home, Cheers Doug but we will definitely get a better player for his wages, Doddsy may even get a good crack now.

Absolute nonsense! You are very much in the minority here mate. And if you think Dodds is any where near to lacing Doug's boots then you must be on whacky baccy!!!

Not surprised. but I think a few on here are overrating the lad. yes hes hardworking and will run all day, but you need a bit more than that to push on and achieve higher status, yes thanks for the efforts loft, but we can and WILL get better :)

all the best to you and your family for the future though , after all, that comes first :)

now lets get some real QUALITY in to replace him

He's been a good player for us through bad times and the recent better times over the past five years but my gut feeling is that it's probably the right time for him to move on for the benefit of the player and the club, I wish him well and now look forward to his replacement.

I'm not glad he's gone but I'm not that sad either. I thank him for his efforts and he's done a good job for the Vale but I think Mickey can replace him with someone of equal ability or better. These things happen and you have to move on.

If we cast our minds back to previous 'out of contract' periods Loft has always hung on until the last minute to keep his options open and I've always felt he didn't really want to be at the Vale all that much, he's always wanted to move back south. That said he's also been very professional in so much as he could never be accused of not giving his all.

Good luck to him, I hope he enjoys the relegation struggle at Gillingham

Predicted this move weeks ago so no surprise at all.

A good (but certainly not great) player for us, much of which was due to his versatility in being able to competently play in a number of positions. Much better at left-midfield (or even left-back) than in centre-midfield, where he seemed to think that he should be playing, as I felt his first-touch could sometimes let him down and lose us possession.

A hard running player although maybe a bit 'headless chicken' at times, which could often see him dead on his feet after 70 or so minutes.

Had a very good season just gone and certainly proved himself to be a decent League 1 player so will be a big loss for us.

Wish him all the best and would give him (brief) applause on his return.

Headless chicken, erratic passer, wild aimless shooting. Technically he wasn't great, but he was a real 100% trier so I say thank you for the service, but you can be replaced.

Also demanded that he matched the highest earner (£3k per week) at the club (Hughes I believe) as he was captain. I'm not sure he was ever a £3k per week player.

We now have a lot of room for manoeuvre in our wage budget to sign some better replacements.
