Interesting cryptic quote from Smurf about Thursday. So what can expect - some top notch new signings of our own? Micky must have known Lofty would be leaving and possibly JMW, so perhaps this roller coaster week will bring us a pleasant surprise. Fingers crossed!

Very good servant to the club & easily our best player over the last 5 years. Always gave 100% and played all over the shop & did well in every role he was asked to perform. Lofty owes us nothing - good luck down south kid & thanks for your efforts

I'd put Pope above him myself but it's all about opinions!

Most of them would have been penalties. For me jmw disappointed last season, more often than not he didn't turn up, his performances often lacked effort and he cost us quite a few goals. On his day he was excellent, Shrewsbury at home he was class. But last season this was very uncommon. Much more bothered about losing loft than him but both are replaceable.

A penalty is no less a goal than a 40 yard screamer.

They have to be scored and we have / have had some people who take woeful penalties.

Alongside his goals he was also top of our assist league last season.

Those who don't think he and Loft will be a great big miss from aan overperforming team I honeslty can't understand.

Not surprised. but I think a few on here are overrating the lad. yes hes hardworking and will run all day, but you need a bit more than that to push on and achieve higher status, yes thanks for the efforts loft, but we can and WILL get better :)

all the best to you and your family for the future though , after all, that comes first :)

now lets get some real QUALITY in to replace him

There are equally quite a few who are discreditting / making light of people who scored a lot of goals for us last season from mdifield in Lofty and JMW, people like them will be very, very difficult to replace.

Lets get Paul Harsley back then.

Over the last two seasons yes' date=' but not over the last 5 years as per the original posters quote.[/quote']

Disagree with that, loft was awful in his first two seasons ,as I said the other day Fraser was selected over him most of the time and we know how poor he was . We helped make lofty the player he is today and , let's face it he was a better left back than midfielder. Disappointed he's gone but not as gutted as I would be if jmw , lines, pope or Neal left.

Doug Loft was a good player for Vale..a bit of a slow starter when he first arrived but he cemented his place in the side as one of the first names on the team sheet and always gave his all

His goals from midfield will be missed but his family must come first...I expect he will shine in Gillinghams side and is one of the few ex-players I will applaud when he comes to Vale Park this season

Well done Lofty and Good Luck!!!

Loft has been a loyal and good player at League 1 and 2 levels and should be well remembered. Wish him luck. He needs replacing as second top goal scorer in League 1 for PV last year with 8 goals but more so because of his midfield energy.

Yes but a large percentage of his goals have come from penalties, something that most players could score, I disagree don't think we would miss him too much at all, he was poor last season.

Hi Guys. I come in peace.

Been very good reading the many comments about Doug Loft. It is very rare that a player (particularly at our level) leaves a club with almost universal praise and best wishes.

Most leave under a cloud of "he was rubbish anyway" or "Judas", even the best players at a club. You know the sort of thing. It happens at ours when players leave. They turn from dynamite to clogger overnight.

Anyway, we've long suspected Doug is a decent player at Div1 level. We now know he is the sort of player that endears himself to fans through hard work, endeavour and no little skill. As you all say, he will be missed by your club, but I'm sure you'll have some quality signings just around the corner that will have you looking forward to the new season.

Good luck (except the games v us) and I'm sure Lofty will do us proud and we'll do our best to take care of him for you.

Oh, any chance Tom Pope is looking to move Darn Sarf? :D
