Gary Roberts-Why bother

If Gary leaves I will be very sad because he is a 'class act' and there aren't too many of them in this lousy division. A good manager would get him back on track like Micky Adams did. Doubt me if you will, but I fear that he will rub a few noses in it . Maybe here but quite likely at Bramall Lane.

Agree. I know that he needs "child minding" but I still feel with the right manager it can work out. I would give him another year. Some of his passing is way above league 2 level. I think he would look even better if we had forwards that were more mobile-giving him more options.

Keeping roberts or not depends on what manager is at vale next season, with a good manager keeping him on the straight and narrow he is one of the best midfielders in the division. Under adams, roberts played a big part in our early season form

The problem is, as mentioned already, he seems very unwilling to help himself. If he was serious about making a career in this game, he would quit drinking period, if he can't do that, then sadly he has no future in the game.

Truly gifted but lacking in all the other things you'd look for in a top player. It isn't a coincidence he's been shown the door at three other clubs and you'd think he'd repay the chance he's been given at Vale by keeping on the straight and narrow. The fact he was dropped for the last match of the season for disciplinary reasons says it all for me.

It will take a very special manager to take another chance with him - too much of a gamble.

I would keep him. His form since Xmas has not been great but on his day he is better than League 2.

Trouble is, his day appears to be a Thursday in July. I said at the beginning of the season that if Roberts stayed sober we would win the League. He hasn't and we didn't.

This is the fourth club at which he has chucked his chances away with his off field activities. Our last four wins have come when Roberts hasn't started. He has been out suspended for 6 games, three of which were down to stupidity in a Reserve game. He's scored 2 goals this season and the stats show he has only 3 assists.

I agree, I'm afraid he's not worth the effort any more. He's blown his chances as far as I'm concerned.
