When I look in the mirror I see somebody who has worked for 44 years and not claimed a penny in benefits. When I look through the window I see many foreign faces who are definitely not here for the weather.

UK citizens who work abroad have my admiration,in fact anybody who works for a living gets a thumbs up.

44 years working and never claimed anything is amazing.... most people have some illness during that time and seek the help/advice of a doctor/hospital and perhaps receive a prescription for medication.... isnt the NHS part of the benefits of this country?

Paid for those kind of benefits tens times over with 44 years of tax and NI contributions.

I personally think that any state benefit that anybody receives should be proportional to what they have actually contributed to the system.

Couldn't agree more.

I went to school with people who suddenly developed a glass back at 16 years of age. They have never done a days work in their life and 46 years later are still living on benefits along with their offspring.Only in this country do we allow people to get away with it,no wonder we are bankrupt.

Thats called going private

What have tax and NI contributions got to do with 'going private'? I assume (I hate assuming) you are talking about private healthcare, where as I said 'state benefits'. (Go on, tell me that the NHS is a state benefit.) If you 'go private', you still have to pay tax and NI.

Holistically everything is a state benefit including defence because we all pay for it as the state

So would a child, a student or a school leaver not be entitled to the same level of health care if they had paid relatively less than someone who had worked for 40 odd years and built up NHS contributions?

Would a younger person get turned away from hospital if they had something so serious that the money they had paid in didn't cover it?

I'm interested to know how this system would work.

The way the NHS is going,it's so stretched,it won't matter if you have paid in or not?
