The forecast models continue to struggle to get to grips with the Easter forecasts as, after predicting a cold Easter for a couple of days, they are now suggesting that a change to somewhat milder conditions could be taking place.

 

The problem in getting milder air in is the huge amount of northern blocking that we have at the moment but this does look to slowly weaken as we go through the coming week. Whilst high pressure over Greenland and Svalbard has been in place, the jet stream has been forced much further south than normal, and subsequently kept us on the northern side - the cold side. As a result all the Atlantic low pressure systems are sent south as well whilst we have to endure a cold feed of air from the east and north.

 

As the high pressure to the north weakens, then the jet stream is likely to begin to push back north, bringing Atlantic low pressure systems back our way, and this looks like taking place in time for Easter. So whilst northern Britain may be cold with some snow for the start of the Easter weekend, milder but unsettled conditions look set to be pushing northwards although there is the risk of some significant rainfall which will once again bring flooding concerns, especially if it coincides with the thaw of lying snow.
