SC update

Maybe it's a move to get back fans connecting with the club. The SC does tend to have the same faces attending and the pack mentality view which comes over.

Maybe they want to get some more representive views from the whole fan base and fear the same few voices have dedicated the direction so far?

Only a suggestion like - but The Sentinel and RS are involved, so seems they are concerned about getting the media on board.

Didnt they say that communication with the club MUST come from the SC?

I can see the media point if it was going to be broadcast live....... but it isnt.

Im guessing [and thats all it is a guess] the job was delegated to someone who messed up

There are over 1,600 members of the supporters club now, it is free to join and everyone, even none members are free to attend meetings and have their say and make suggestions as was the case when we asked all fans for their wish lists

In the press conference Norman made it explicitly clear the way forward was for ALL fans to join the SC - go to 22:30

http://www.portvalesupportersclub.org/site/?p=1099

The problem has arisen because they tasked people within the club on Sunday to arrange the forum and it is those people who chose to have no involvement with the supporters club and not Norman or Paul, however, the arrangements were made and advertised and "we are where we are"

Norman has personally said he wanted it to be an SC event and firmly believes the SC is the way to work with fans and he will be attending an SC meeting in 2-3 weeks

The SC have not fallen out with Norman or Paul and we are disappointed that those at the club who organised this chose not to involve us, I guess it will take time for the attitudes and habits of some to change.

We made the "clarification" after being asked about the forum many times, there was even a thread on here somewhere asking why the SC had not advertised the forum - because we knew nothing of it

It's that simple, no fall out between the SC and NW & PW, just more of the same from the club which we have no doubt will change. We move on!

Early days, I am sure that in the future there will be various types of events, such as a live Fan forum (with audience) by local Radio, Club events by the Vale, SC meetings etc. What is essential is that communication is linked up to give maximum publicity and a sense of unity for the Vale and its fans. Surely it would have been better for a forum to have been part of a P&G broadcast, instead of clashing with a commentary on the same night, but I assume that decision was made by Radio Sjoke. But it is impossible to please all the people all of the time, all the good work the SC do is either not realised or ignored, some people dislike SCs and unions etc speaking for them. But remember that unity is strength, change policy if you think it should be changed, but always stick together. SCs and FCs will often disagree, but currently we both appear to have the same objectives, which is more and happier fans.

so why did the SC statement say 'we are disappointed with those at the club who organised this did not choose to involve us' ?

Because they are? The SC have done wonders and some *** within the club has ignored them. Wouldnt you be disappointed? I'd be livid. Get real.

'Being part of the SC committee is a thankless task, those who criticise will soon have their chance to step up to the plate doubt there will be many takers'.

Steve, that is very true - the SC has managed to build an encouraging membership during the 'troubles' and all credit to them for achieving that.

However, it will now take a different sort of mentality to continue growing the membership in a period of co-operation and peace and that possibly requires a different type of person.

Pete Williams would be the perfect person to continue as Chairman but we all know his health issues and the stress he has incurred whilst serving the SC during both my own tenure as Chairman (where Pete and I had an unofficial agreement that he would take over as Chairman as soon as we were able to get the RW shares donated to the SC) and, of course, as Chairman in his own right since my departure.

Martin T has already publicly announced via his blog that he intends to stand down - not sure what Gary's intentions are.

So, basically a new SC team may well need building in the near future and whilst there are plenty of fans with the ability to take the SC forward I just hope that all the effort put into creating a viable SC at the club is not wasted through indifference now that the club has, hopefully, a brighter future.

so why did the SC statement say 'we are disappointed with those at the club who organised this did not choose to involve us' ?

because the sc are disapointed with"those at the club", however, "those at the club"who organised this are not smurf or wildes.

does it really really matter who organizes it? as long as it goes on them Im pleased.

no need to throw toys out of the pram because it goes on without the sc's help and then send out emails saying theyre disappointed. Its saved them the bother hasnt it?

As long as its on then thats great.

You stated that ns and pw had put their money in so they are entitled to organise it.I was just pointing out that it was not organised by them, but by an other.
