Respectfully disagree.

We don't need to get to 53 points.

2024-25 EFL1 season 47 points (or 46 points and better goal difference) stayed up.

2023-24 EFL1 season 45 points (or 44 points and better goal difference) stayed up.

2022-23 EFL1 season 46 points (or 45 points and better goal difference) stayed up.

This season, my best guess is that the bar will be slightly higher at about 48 points to stay up.

It is a massive match at Doncaster on Tuesday - win that, and we are fully back in the mix.

Sort of agree. However a lot of “what ifs” because even a win at Doncaster still leaves at best a gap of 9 points to a safety. A lot possible but to be in a position to guarantee safety we  need to win 8 of the last 10 matches in my view.

1 win V Doncaster even 3 straight wins after that, still leaves us with a lot to do.

The great escape means probably overturning Exeter or Blackpool, two teams that will still get points from somewhere.

Exeter and Blackpool play each other in the next two weeks and Exeter have some relatively easy games with Orient, Blackpool and Doncaster their next 3.

It would interesting to find out where we would currently sit if the season had started when DM was sacked

Well, for starters,JB has certainly steadied the ship. However, apart from cup games, we ain't won that many more. But we have shown a much more steely approach and a more pleasantly attack-minded style of play to that boring, cautious approach which DM always took. Anyway, it's all a bit academic as we are where we are.

We all have a bitmore hope for the future I think. Realistically, I think we're still going to be in the bottom 4.  But mathematically, there's still an outside chance. So let's keep backing JB and the lads. UTV!

Or stupid….. he’d still have Moore as our manager.

I was confused as to why there were fans shuffling off well before the match ended?

Orient have won their last 4 League games, and Exeter have gained just 4 points from their last 10 League games (W0 D4 L6).

I don't see Exeter getting anything out of that Orient game.

If my guess that about 48 points will be enough to stay up is correct, then Vale need to win 6 of our last 10 matches to reach 49 points.

Northampton and Rotherham won't reach 49 points.

I'm pretty confident that Exeter won't reach 49 points.

Sadly, I think that Wigan will reach the 49 points and above mark, as will the teams immediately above Wigan.

So our other rival candidate for the drop is Blackpool.

Will Blackpool reach 49 points?

And, if they do, how poor will their GD then be?

Worse than Vale's GD, if Vale can put together the 6 wins from our last 10 matches to reach 49 points.

@philpvfc

I always ignore your regular childish attempts to pick a fight with me.

But I would be obliged if you didn't tell bare-faced lies about me.

Check all of my posts.

Then, when you have found that there is nothing I have said which substantiates your lie, please have enough about you to post again to withdraw your remark.

I doubt that you have the character to do that, but perhaps you will pleasantly surprise me.

I think people are wasting too much time on the maths, personally.

We are down.

Brady pretty much said that pre-match.

Maybe that helped lift a bit of pressure off the team yesterday, who knows?

The only thing to play for now is the FA Cup (never thought I’d say that come the end of March!), professional pride, but probably most importantly, new contracts.

It’s great if we can go on a run, at least gives us something to build on for next year and hopefully means that a lot of the current season ticket holders renew next year in the hope of a promo tilt.

But as for getting out of the mire this year…..sorry it ain’t happening.

Still, the good news is that “we’ll learn from this”….

Agreed, and besides this schedule for the next month is going to be brutal. There is no way we can get the results would require from it. Just let JB keep having a look at who he will want or not going into L2 next season and hopefully bloody a couple more noses along the way.

Like me you didn't want Brady but i am just wondering if he has now changed your mind,do you now think he is the right man to take us forward?

I will hold my hands up and say he has certainly swayed me and i am looking forward to seeing how we play next season on a top notch pitch

Firstly I’ll say it’s plainly obvious we need at least 3 strikers in the building in the summer. Proper number 9s.

As for Brady, we do actually play some neat stuff at times. And I didnt want him to be in charge next season but I’ve seen enough to suggest he can get us back up with a decent budget.
My biggest issue is those at the top. At their annual review Hancock must get the chop or moved to the foundation. Someone has to take blame for this utter calamity of a season.

When we lost to Plymouth they leapfrogged us and sent us bottom. Fans were calling for Moores head two weeks prior after the Stockport horror show. But Hancock thought it was a good idea to go on the podcast and say that they are right and we were wrong.
That decision cost us our league status it will seem.
Plymouth are now 7th!!!

If Brady stays next season I’ll be ok with that SO LONG as Hancock gets the boot.

It was great to see the crowd getting behind the team yesterday.

We just want to see a committed, well organised effort. If we get that, we go home happy.

Unfair to single people out, but Connor Hall, Rhys and Ojo in particular must have slept well last night

Agree, and add George Hall to that list.

From my perspective, the probability of us escaping relegation is extremely low.  That said there have been bigger surprises in the history of sport, like Leicester winning the premier league.

On the rare occasion that we have had a good result this season, we have struggled to follow it up and go on anything like a run.

I enjoyed yesterday, but I am not going to get too excited about things.  My hope is that we can at least make things a little bit more interesting and not go down without any sort of fight.

Regardless, I will still be a Vale fan next season.  I hope that we do learn from this because we need to find a way to re-establish ourselves as a league 1 club.  Based on our size and history, we should be at least mid table in this division.

Nowhere that I heard, and I very much doubt it, would you like to point out where?
