Match Thread - Port Vale v Plymouth Argyle

Featured Replies

It has a draw written all over it . So 1-1  it is then , and the only reason we get a point is that Plymouth will be knackered after a long trip and a 12:30 start.

Question marks over John & Johnson's fitness?

Whether it’s John, Johnson, John’s son or John’s son’s son, if they play for Vale they’re bound to be injured.

If we keep our shape and stay resolute we might get something here.

She didn't stand for any nonsense from the Bromley players as she booked 7 of them with the majority of them getting booked for dissent.

Sounds perfect 😊

Suppose we can’t blame her for the disallowed goal, it was one of the latest flags I’ve ever seen from a liner.

I don't care if it goes in via a deflection or off someone's backside I just want us to score on Saturday because if we don't we will equal our club record of going five league matches without scoring a goal. We have gone five matches without scoring four times in our history and the last time we did it was under Crosby back in September (started on the 30th) and October 2023 (ended on the 28th) and we all know how that season ended up.

This match to me will not define our season, but it will go a long way to giving us the fans, Carol and Kevin and Darren himself  a glimpse into the future.

To my mind, Darren has a choice this weekend, either he picks his trusted soldiers, those who he would want in the trenches side by side with him, or what he believes is his best eleven in order to win what is probably his 'last chance saloon' for many many Vale fans. Now some of the players picked may fall into both categories but I firmly believe that what those eleven players do once the whistle blows at 12.30 on Saturday will tell us all what camp they are in.

Not only that, but it will also give us all a glimpse into what Darren thinks of those players left out, and what message they take from that.

It seems that the fan base is growing ever more disenchanted at both results, but perhaps more importantly at performances, especially at home. Things can change in an instance as we all know, taking the lead on Saturday will lift everyone and hopefully we can take advantage of our early pressure which has deserved more than what we got from either of the last two League games.

However, I don't particularly mind if we lose on Saturday, we already know that Tolaj will score at least one, we will most probably gift them another which means we need two just to get a point and I cant see us scoring three, can anyone ?

I'm not going to second guess a formation/starting 11, I'm not going to predict a score either, but I will predict that Saturday's game will go a long way to showing where Port Vale are heading under the current manager.

I can't wait.

I think he will play an eleven who still want to play for him, problem is, that eleven is getting harder to pick every week.

If John is injured he’s going to play Ronan Curtis at wing back again.

Come again ??

It does genuinely feel like the defining game of the Shanahan’s tenure.

A loss and they’re going to have to concede that the man they tethered the medium-term fortunes of the club to simply isn’t up to it, has wasted a lot of their money, and has wasted a third of the season and a summer’s recruitment. A lot more will have to be spent on what is then a firefighting job to stop us sliding right back to where we started when Carol took over in 2019 - which for me would trigger her stepping away from PVFC and handing control to Paddy.

A win might just trigger the confidence shift that stops these repeated missed chances and defensive mishaps, they look like geniuses for sticking with Moore, and the squad starts to perform about par and finishes about 18th.

A draw and we all have a good whinge and go again at Lincoln.
