Match Thread: Exeter City v Port Vale

Featured Replies

We are probably going have to keep marosi and Amos at the club for the whole season as gauci will keep missing games due to international duty. It was mentioned on the ale and vale podcast that there's the asia cup in January which Australia compete in so thats gauci away for around 6 or 7 games in January aswell as 1 or 2 games at every other international break.

The rotation theory is all well and good when we aim to go the distance and compete at the top end right to the end of the season. This year its different. We need to get 50 points as soon as possible to avoid the drop. Consistency now could of meant earlier points and us a lot closer to that target. Ideally, putting us in a place that towards the end of the season we're not as desperate to find results.

Signing a keeper, then realising he's not at all what we thought we were buying, and then loaning a lad who will miss a quarter of the season to replace him seems suboptimal imo.

Once again, the unheralded Amos is going to prove key. Proper keeper. Signed with minimal fuss, plays with minimal fuss. Get him back in nets.

Hopefully Amos will return to first team duty, and Gauci will have served his purpose as injury cover. Whether our goalkeeper coach can install some confidence into Marosi who knows. Otherwise another goalie in January or bring Davies back?

Exeter, Mansfield, Barnsley.

Moore has to win at least 1 to keep his job surely.

I agree. Failure to win in 10 league games is a major concern and we would be almost certain to be looking at a quick return to league 2. With a very tough end to the season that would be putting big pressure on the middle part of the season to get a lot of points and if we havent done that after 10 games or so i cant see that changing in october november and december.

3 Huge games coming up which will kind of tell us where the season is heading. Win a couple and the table looks a hell of a lot different, lose them and then something will have to change.

We cannot have two relegations in three seasons. If that happens then something is clearly going wrong at the club.

I still believe. I think our squad is too good to not win a game soon, and once we get that monkey of our backs I think plenty more will follow.

I was gutted at the weekend. As we're we all. But second half we played a really decent side off the pitch. Nobody we have played this season have been considerably better than us over 90 minutes.

I do tend to agree in what you are saying, but we have to win a game of football and it neds to come saturday. Not just for the fans but for the players also. You get on a bad run in league 1 like we are now and its tough to get out of it with the quality of teams were up against.

fingers crossed for these next couple of games where we have to get 4 points minimum.

I’m not sure Gauci was bought here as injury cover. He’s been signed to be the number 1. Quality keeper

Problem is, having a number 1 keeper as a loan means that your signed no 1 ends up totally un match fit if that top loan gets recalled.

Just like if the regular number 1 gets injured? 😄

I think its something people are putting too much of a concern into.

At some point regardless of who is in the net, the defence needs to be solid in front of the #1 and we've been having very silly lapses that have just exposed the keeper more really.

I'd like for us to focus transfer efforts on CB options to tighten up more - can't be having defenders not being mobile enough or forgetting there is a back post

I agree but it is extremely rare we see 90 minutes of really good football, we either start really well then either tire or changes are made that make us worse or we start poorly and then improve immensely once changes are made.
