One things for sure, we use stats to identify targets.

If we were in for this player, we will be using a specific data set for the type of player we want which would have identified him. It wouldn't have been his goals record or number of starts!

I argued before a strikers role isn't necessarily goals and assists, depends on what the role is within the team.

I have zero ideas if this lad is any good or not - never seen him play. I also have no idea what our recruitment department are looking for in the backup striker.

Personally I like Sam Cosgrove - not really worked out for him in England with goals and assist,  a similar career record to Hanlon but the way he plays he would be a good backup player for Stockley. He's a handful when on his game.

I've heard of Cosgrove, but can't say I've ever seen him play (or at least remembered him!). Is he the big target man?

Also, if I'm reading those stats correctly - only 133 x 90 minutes in 10 years? 13 games a season on average?

On the subject of Wikipedia scouting and goal records - take a look at last seasons L1 top scorer: Charlie Kelman.

20 goals across 6 seasons prior to last year.

Then suddenly finds a system/club/manager that suits him, and scores 27!

I can imagine the comments on here if we'd signed him.

"Never hit double figures"

"We need a proven goalscorer"

"12 goals in 3 years? Boooooooooooo"

I got back late last night from my pre-season training camp in Snodonia;

had a pre-brekkie weigh-in this morning - put on 4+a bit pounds in 6 days, pure muscle, impressively gliding straight through large to XL on my shirt trying on session in the club shop - so, all in all, a successful week 🙈🙈🙈🙈

Anyway, iv drifted off topic; on way back into Biddulph, I saw James Wilson driving up Chell bank - just saying 👍😍

Couple of pints of Doombar and a Hunters Chicken in Spoons will soon get you match fit!

You can't judge players based on their Wikipedia article, from a quick look at their stats, from an in-depth look at their stats, from what fans of other clubs have said about them, from what managers think of them, from how they've played against Vale or from how they've played in general.

So there.

Really interesting you miss out ‘watching them play games of football’.

“In depth look at the stats” when it’s a quick google of fbref and transfermarkt is also quite funny.

Enjoy these simple times. Once AI is deciding which clubs players should be at what will we do?

Need a proven 40 goal a season striker, and a quick, strong, tall, good on the ball centre half imo, both of whom will sign for a mid-table League 1 club.

Yeah he’s someone to play from.

Bounced around a little with not having a regular place in a team but when he does he’s a 10 goal a season striker.

DC didn’t fancy him at Barnsley so lost his place needed up a sub for Stockport in the back end of the season. I think he’s a good target player at L1 level and good insurance policy for Stockley.

For context look at his stats for aerial duels in both boxes. One of the best in the division and only 28 years old.

Yeah I think he is a target man, 6ft 4. I wouldn't be overly keen on him, wouldn't be surprised if he went back to Scotland, only team he's ever seemed to do well for is Aberdeen.

Depends what the manager wants. If he wants Stockley but not as good Cosgrove is clearly the better of the 2. If he wants someone with pace who can operate on the right of a 3 then Hanlan is the better option. We aren't going to sign perfection.

Cryptic message this morning from X… possibly another signing announcement today?

Certainly looks like a player we might sign. Probably not short of offers at this level though
