Gareth Bale

For Us All

I can't be bothered at all with Team GB for two reasons. One is that David Beckham wasn't included, despite him playing a big part in bringing the games to London and still being a more than capable player, and the other is that it's managed by Stuart Pearce. I liked him as a player, but as a manager he hasn't got much of a clue.

The squad is also ****. If it's supposed to be a team that's representing the whole of the UK then why no Scottish players?

Which Scottish players would you have picked?

Did Bale make the choice though or did Spurs make it for him?

Like I said, why didn't he come out and say he didn't want to play instead of talking bull****?

I don't know but whoever made it made the right one IMO.

Wish Bale was qualified to play for England.

That's not the point. If we were picking just the best players in Britain that were available it would almost be an England national team 11.

Scott Brown and Shaun Maloney spring to mind, however. Maloney was outstanding at the back end of last season for Wigan Athletic.

Didnt scottish players refuse to play?

Also, even if they didnt, of course you should pick the best players at your disposal. Why would you leave a better english player out and pick a worse scottish player, just because he's scottish? Thats discrimination.

It was nothing to do with the Players, it was the Scottish and Northern Irish FA's not wanting to get involved in Team GB (especially as the Jocks thinks they are so important and need to be individual)

Logistically, Bale needed to be fit at the point that Team GB was finalised. If he wasn't then it was right to withdraw because Team GB only has 18 players and can't carry any injuries in the way that England with 23 players can. If he is now fit to play for Spurs, well so be it. It therefore comes down the assessment of the injury and whether there was integrity in that process in terms of what we think of Spurs and him personally. It is sort of easy for me for some reason to feel negative about Bale and to some extent VB his manager. But I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

I will not watch any of the Team GB football. I think the Olympics are being wrongly expanded in to professional spectator sports and nonsense sports like beach volleyball. Bigger is not better, it is just more costly. I have to say I am not a fan of athletics either. I sat through athletics and swimming in the 1970's and 1980's when East Europeans and particularly Germans were cheating using drugs on a government level organised scale. This rubbish was being shown on TV and our commentators were comparing our country adversely to East Germany - giving communist dictators the prestige they wanted for their murderous regimes. I then sat through the likes of Ben Johnson and the hero worship of Florence Griffith Joiner - who still holds the world record for 100m - and died of her drug taking ultimately. You could see the drugs in their eyes. And even when the sport is cleaned up it's not a spectator sport, it cannot fill the stadium built for it after the games end and this sport has spoilt stadium after stadium round the world with a track that is never used but puts fans too far away from other field sports like football. It just vacuums money.
