I don't agree..the season where he scored a hat trick against Inter he also made a serious impact (and I don't just mean that hat trick)

 

 

 

He'll fit in if he shows that he can do more for the team than other players..it's the same for all those other players. However, he does take the risk of not playing regularly cos of the competition

 

He did make an impact against Milan and became seen as a very good Premier League player with potential to be world class. But then everything seemed to drift and he did not improve as expected until last season. I put that down partly to him - he did not have the robustness that Messi has and that can be seen in going to ground when fouled. But it is also because at Totenham he did not get converted like Messi to playing primarily down the middle of pitch switching from midfield to attack but not going wide except when that is where the space is. Instead he kept getting seen as a winger. The switch for Messi was key to him becoming the best player in the world because he is at the heart of the game. Now with Bale actually, although he has switched, we have not yet seen if can consistently do what Messi does which is to control games and possession. How good is he? Is he really worth £80 million+.

There is no mystique in Man United's finances. It is business with the Glazers. There is mystique in Real Madrid's finances and that allows them to keep paying world record fees for players.

In the early 2000's (The Galacticos era) it was repeatedly reported in the press etc that Real were 1 billion Euros in debt but that debt, if reported accurately, seemed to evaporate.

Isn't Real Madrid owned by its members,of which there are over 60,000.Members could be oil rich arabs,bankers,politicians and even euro millions winners?

 

One of the keys to Real Madrid's wealth and also Barcelona's is that these clubs have their own TV rights. In Madrid's case that is worth £140 million a year.

No bank in Spain that was owed money by the club would ever call it in..probably why Spain is in such a mess :(

 

I think the relationship with the banks has needed to change now, but the taking of TV personal rights and the growing of the world brand has helped overcome that. They have become more business like. But the world brand protection is partly behind Bale I think and as I have said that is a risk for him in terms of football but not wages. He has now apparently told Spurs he wants to join Madrid, so the deal is likely to happen once the world record fee is agreed.
