Stoke mate just called round to visit me. Obviously chat turned to football.

He was incredulous as an ex manager that Flitcroft didn't take the reins last night. I just said it shows the calibre of the bloke that he'd rather chuck Ryder under the bus instead.

I'd agree. I can see why you'd need a good, experienced club secretary to manage transfers, contracts all the other EFL requirements (i.e. the admin side) especially if the owners don't have that specialist knowledge. But there's no need for a DoF and presumably if they removed the role a significant wage saving too.

I agree also - we did have a very good and well respected CEO till DF appeared on the scene - not been the same since Colin left.

This feels worse than at any time in our recent history. Carol has come in & saved the club from Smuthwaite. She has put in millions & been totally let down by Flitcroft & his cronies. Hopefully Carol remains as committed to the club as ever, but a total rebuild is required after our almost certain relegation.

Spot on assessment.

Is it commonplace for Directors at football clubs to become the manager?

It might be, but I can't think of one other than when Micky Adams became a fake director that time.

Hopefully she will stay committed but her first priority is to find additional external investment for the club and to spend it on the playing squad - but absolutely not under Flitcroft's watch.

No however given the severity of the circumstances I don't think it's a question that doesn't need asking.

To ask Ryder to step up was pretty incredible. And presumably sanctioned with our owners full knowledge.

I find it really quite strange that people are saying that a Director should be taking the team. He should be spending his time finding the right bloke to take the team, not doing it himself.

I agree, she has been let down.....badly, she did the right thing getting professional advice what she inadvertently did was pick the wrong bloke.

After Wembley we just needed 3/4 new upgrades and move on, to me it seems as though he couldn't wait to chuck the jigsaw up in the air and stamp his authority on the club.
