Why would anyone pay that much for a League One club on the cusp of collapse?  It’s barely worth a couple of quid.

The ground and associated holdings are extremely attractive to a potential buyer. The problem is the ability to service debts and what I understand Reading have the 3rd highest operating costs in the league.

The club will effectively be sold for a nominal fee for the transaction and a new owner to take on the debt.

I don’t believe the current owner is looking to recoup the 40+m of his own money… well that’s what he’s reportedly said but actions speak louder than words.

For those of us old enough to remember....."Shaka, Shaka what's the score?"!!!!

I'd forgot all about Shaka Hislop !

Well it hosts gigs, has a hotel and has hosted a Rugby Union team so still a fair bit.
I would imagine the Ricoh stadium still had value even when Coventry weren't playing there because it's a modern, multi-use stadium next to a major motorway.
I would agree that the overall asking price is ridiculous. It's clearly mostly the current owner's asking price, but I would still argue that that modern stadium would add considerably more to the asking price then Vale stadium did to ours.
The club doesn't own the stadium, they rent it.

They are not happy campers, are they.  I know some people hate them but we were close to that not that long ago.  Feel for them.

Wiki says Reading was established on Christmas Day 1871. An important long standing part of the community. So I hope they can survive and rebuild. But we need 3 points tomorrow.

Feel for fans but Reading are dreadfully run. They had Andy Carroll on the books last time we played them. That’s insane to be paying him post relegation.

Anyone know if any tickets available from Reading on the day, just had a phone call from a friend in London who has decided he would like to go now, can see none available on the Vale site.  Also anyone recommend anywhere to park.

Seems like another club that chased the dream with money they didn't have and the owner clearly had zero idea of how much money it takes just to sustain Championship football. I feel sorry for the fans but it's another team that seems to have cheated to get higher in the pyramid at the expense of other clubs who do it by the book.

They also made this song a few years back:

Ha I've never heard that before. It's next-level cringe. Pretty much confirms what I thought of them as a club.

Maybe they should have become Thames Valley Royals after all, as Robert Maxwell wanted to call them in a merger with Oxford.

I'm going for a  2-1 win for The vale tomorrow, uche & wilo on target.

Calling for an abandonment tomorrow.

I fail to see what that will achieve?

He talks about selling their best players will surely get them relegated. But getting games abandoned will surely see them get a giant points deduction and thereby get them relegated.

Can’t imagine they won’t have room to accommodate pay on the day, stadium will be half full at best. There are some car parks at the ground or a couple of park and rides that run buses to the ground.
