Am I in a group of one who cringes when I see the name James Gibbons bandied around ?

No thanks

To be clear, I don't want him. I just think it's the sort of signing we'll be after.

I'm sure DF is already doing it but, if I was him, I'd be making presentations to every Champ/Prem club and saying let me tell you about the story of Devine and The Blaster and getting as many loan offers as we can.

Harratt out with along term injury

He's reportedly out till some point in the New Year.

However, when  has anything so incidental as an injury stopped us bringing a striker in! :whistling: :banghead:

A Gibbons return makes no sense. Lovely bloke and he was a good player for us but...

We have an injury-prone LWB (Grant) plus a RWB (Clark) who is out for some time yet. Both Massey and Sang have picked up knocks recently too.

Surely, what we therefore want to bring in if we want cover/competition is someone who is regularly available, not bring back another player who (for all his good points) has a dodgy long-term injury record.

Not really. He covers a few positions we need cover and competition in, he's out of favour at the club he's at, and he's local.

We may well sign someone else, who may be better or may be worse than Gibbons

I am with Rob on this ! Let’s move on ! We need more players who are more regularly available. This injury situation is becoming something of a joke! Not at all sustainable for a club our size.

ell/release/loan Cass, Jones, and Conlon.

I can't see Jones going anywhere. He's got another season left on his deal after this one.

I'm sure Dan is a lovely bloke and an asset when fit but sadly that's just not been the case. He's had a lengthy spell out in each of the three seasons he's been here. He's made 51 League appearances in two and a half seasons (four this season) which means of the 116 games he could have played in, he's been unavailable for 57% of the time he's been here (even the much maligned James Wilson has a better record - he's been unavailable for 31% of the time). This season Jones has been available for 17% of the League season.

With Jones' record (and he's still out now) I can't see anyone wanting to sign him and to release him would mean a big pay-out.

I'd be interested to know who thought giving Jones and Grant (with their injury records) two year deals in the summer was a wise plan! Surely one year deal with appearance-based extensions would have been better. They did pretty much that with Wilson.

Gibbo good league 2 player but not good enough for league 1 , if he was then he would be a permanent fixture in a rovers team

Carlisle fans saying that the players who were outstanding in league 2 and got them promoted have struggled this season

Saw that also with Forrest green last season

The gap of quality between league 1 and league 2 is growing and it’s a bigger step up than you think

Saw it with ourselves with for example Conlon, being honest I expected Garrity to struggle but thankfully proved me wrong.

It is a different kettle of fish I guess playing in each division.

Gibbons for his versatility if stayed fit would a decent addition however his injury record would leave us potentially in the same boat.

Vale missed out on Josh Emmanuel who played for Carlisle yesterday, he looked good, a number of people on OVF were talking about him.
Emmanuel compared to Massey and Grant is absolutely night and day. Missed out big time overlooking him.

Brad Hills, CB on loan from Norwich.
Joe Taylor, ST on loan from Luton.
Denver Hume, LB, on loan from Portsmouth.
Punts - Ben Krauhaus/Chris Conn-Clarke/Josh Stokes/Lorant Tolaj (would all cost probably low 6 figures with sell ons)
Send back Thomas and Balmer.
Sell/release/loan Cass, Jones, and Conlon.
I have a sneaking suspicion we will go back in for Gibbons and Harratt.
Denver Hume was on the radar in summer wasn't he? Didn't Alan Nixon link him to us?
