If they cannot play a friendly on august 11th, how the hell do they expect to stage a cup match 3 days later?

Utter, utter shambles.

Very good point and one day lost due to it being Sunday.

I see three options if they cannot get the safety certificate in place.

1) The play the match behind closed doors.

2) They switch the match to Turf Moor.

3) They postpone the match.

Sorry chaps but I think it is all over. We can blame who we like but I can't see us starting the new season in league 2. I expect there will be a lot of finger pointing etc. but it will make no difference. As Mo so kindly points out in his Sentinel article "who in their right mind would pay £1.3 million for Port Vale at this time" Apologies if I have misquoted but you get the drift. The money and goodwill has run out.

I guess if Keith Ryder is trying to borrow any money as part of his takeover the "who in their right mind would pay £1.3 million for Port Vale" argument may be put to him by the lender.

With regard to health and safety. Suppose this was a pub. It needs a LandLord who signs and agrees to abid by the legal requirements before the licence to sell alcohol is granted. Here, we have two issues. Firstly, the equivalent of a LandLord is needed and that must be the owner or his designated deputy. Secondly, the certificate will require inspections and maintenance to be carried out. How, do we know that the floodlight generator complies with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and won't blow up like the one at Shrewsbury. The administrator is not going to pay for that work because it uses up the funds to repay the creditors. The administrator is not going to take on responsibility for signing the safety certificate, that was for Keith Ryder. I have some sympathy with the argument of the Supporters Club that they were sitting on funds to do repairs, maintenance and testing etc - could have got on with this. But I don't think that changes the situation in terms of certification and acceptance of responsibility.
