pitch whingers united again! it is what it is get on with it like previous teams.
All pitches have an overhaul from time to time, even the sand based ones. Leicester have done something with theirs and are having problems, the heat lamps give an orange glow in the sky at night.

Never be able to compete with the top ten little old port vale is back. Pretty disappointed with that from Clarke to be honest. Hope that wasn't in the presentation to the perspective new signings.
It's the truth though. Maybe it will help control some of the people demanding big money be spent this month.

The championship ready stuff, as much as I get it, has elevated expectations. Talk of aiming for the play offs pre Jan also made people believe we were going to go for it in Jan. I think I'd prefer an honest assessment which is what Clark has provided.

I think some people have got a bit carried away with our recent success. Although crowds have gone up , teams like Wednesday still get 3 x our crowds. So financially we are nowhere near them.

Additionally, Carol and Kevin are very wealthy but they can't just throw money into a bottomless pit. They have to run it as a viable business first and foremost.

What we have to rely on is our management team outsmarting and outperforming those above us with more money. It has been done before with teams like Wycombe and Burton, so it can be done. But it might take time, maybe 3 or 4 years, maybe longer. Businesses take time to grow and when they took over they were basically starting from scratch. I believe that Carol said early on in her tenure that the Championship was the target and then once we got there she would bring in money from other people to help compete at that level.

We're nowhere near Championship ready yet in terms of both squad and infrastructure. If we got promoted this season, we'd probably barely get a point in the league above. Better in my opinion to get the whole club fully prepared and ready for the next level.
They are wealthy in a normal world. In football world they aren't that wealthy. We have to be realistic.

Correct.  This is taken from Trotters official site (17/1/23):

“Plans are in place to lay a new playing surface at the University of Bolton Stadium in the summer as Wanderers work to combat the effects of a deteriorating pitch.

The current pitch is around 16 years old and has almost doubled its intended lifespan.

A combination of a heavy workload of 14 home league games this season – as well as eight home cup ties and an England fixture in the Rugby League World Cup – and a very wet mid-winter has also contributed to a worn-out surface short of grass cover.

Considerable efforts are being made to improve the pitch in the short term – including the provision of additional heat lamp rigging and seed sowing – to aid the team’s performances as the Whites continue to challenge in League One’s top six.

Major investment will then follow at the end of the season with a timetable in place to lay a new pitch following concerts by P!nk at the University of Bolton Stadium on 7 and 8 June.

Wanderers’ Chief Executive Officer, Neil Hart, said: “Chris Simm and his ground staff have done an excellent job to keep the pitch going for as long as it has.

“Due to its age and the other factors involved it has been impossible to maintain the surface as it was but the staff continue to work hard to do what they can and with the measures put in place we are expecting the pitch to improve going into the spring.

“We then have a plan in place to re-lay the pitch in the summer in a major renovation programme designed to give the team the best possible surface to play on.””

Well no new pitch for a few years at least according to flickers

What do you mean by a new pitch? The Grass that we see which to me will be replaced, or the longer term job in maybe 3 years a proper drainage and base to be installed.

Probably means a “proper job” rather than just remedial work, which we get every summer in some way, shape or form.  Obviously we have bigger priorities.  New scoreboard being one by the sounds of it.

The scoreboard no longer works fully,is a viewing obstruction, and part of the away end change.
