The Hamil End

STUNG

I really aren't bothered about the scoreboard. You can look at your phone/watch to see how long there is left in the game/other teams scores. The number of times it has packed in before and then spluttered into life....the Brentford game was hilarious.

And if we want one like the Colchester one...it looks rubbish!

I'm pretty certain I read somewhere that the manufacturer has actually ceased trading.

Colchester have one inbetween two stands that I'm sure shows a video feed of the game and instant replays.

"Your advert here" / put it in the family stand in full unhindered view of the ifollow camera gantry and match press photographers = annual income £££

Groundhopping at Colchester United

When I said "move the scoreboard" I meant make one visible from the Hamil really. It would also make the view from there better without the old one hanging over the seats.

I know it would cost but a scoreboard like the Wembley ones where they do a replay of the goals would be ace.

I think that's more because the scoreboard is so outdated rather than scoreboards themselves not being useful.

You can have useful stuff on a scoreboard above and beyond the score - travel details, match lottery results, fixture details, things like minute's applause for fans who have passed  - and then there's advertising which is another revenue stream (no idea how big or small) for the club.

I would imagine it has its place in the priority order of things to do at the club but were it to be replaced (and sorry for repeating myself) I do think two - one in the old family stand and another in the Lorne/Hamil corner would enable everyone to see a screen. To me those are the obvious places to site them to make use of what are otherwise empty spaces at the ground.

If they were bigger I guess the advertising costs would rise potentially making them pay for themselves / even make a profit. I guess it's all down to if the numbers add up as to whether it's a priority or not.

Any talk of putting a scoreboard in the Family Stand should be quashed immediately.  From memory the steel work is the only bit still left from the Old Rec.  If so, we should be applying for It to be classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The same could also be said of the opposite corner, which is possibly the only bit of original terracing left of VP.  I may be wrong on both counts, both may be more akin to Triggers broom, but what I will say is that anyone who says I’m stuck in the past with these ideas will be challenged to settle the argument by jousting.

I think the main reason we haven't updated the scoreboard for a sleek new one, particularly in any corner of the ground, is that it wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes before it was smashed by one of our shots on goal. Now it won't

TBF as long as Marcus Bent isn't playing it should be ok on the corner. Every time he had a shot at goal you could see the Bycars fans ducking or running for cover

Perhaps someone can correct me but I think it's the turnstiles that were the main issue in terms of any safety compliance. Probably down to cost-cutting and lack of upkeep from previous regimes.

As time's gone on I would imagine the facilities are also in pretty poor repair now so there's little chance (or indeed need if the LS family area is opened) to use it.

I would also guess that with the future switch to the Bycars for away fans any future use of that corner is going to be totally ruled out as it would make sense to have a "buffer" between the Railway and the Bycars.

For that reason, I think that corner and the opposite one would be great places for two modern scoreboards (when the club thinks it's the right time to upgrade the scoreboard).

There may come a time when we need the extra capacity, we came close a couple of times this season just gone.

it would look better if was just a continuation of the Bycars, ie just remove that small fence and folk could use the facilities in the Bycars.

Then the question would be do home fans move back to the Bycars because as you say, it would need that buffer between the Railway and Bycars.

Great idea for the club and it was a great atmosphere in there for the Swindon match, but I hope they've got a plan for security and segregation.

There seems to be an ever increasing amount of numpties doing "Eastern European Football Hooligan" cosplay at football recently. Seeing every away match as some sort of battle where they must set off as many flares, provoke as many people and cause as much damage as possible.

One thing good about Vale Park is that the Hamil Road end is separate from the rest of the stadium, with bus parking behind it for these youths in their fake Stone Island jackets to be shepherded back on to with minimal fuss.

And one good thing about the Lorne Street was that it is far away even from that. And we're not just playing Stevenage and Salford with a few hundred fans now. So they will be right up amongst it after two cans of lager.

Anyway.. I'm sure they have a plan, and in Carol I trust.
