There's a good number of bycars enders who are not happy about the move to the hamil I say this to you ,if Port Vale have more numbers coming through the turnstiles is that not what we all want I understand you may not like folk standing in front of you etc but you do not have to move to hamil there's the railway you probably noticed only the singers stand up all game towards the hamil so you can sit freely in majority of stand and paddock ,Lorne Street the same as someone who regularly went in bycars 90s and also gone watch Vale in Lorne Street and Paddock and now stand but very rarely we have took the roof off the place like we did v Swindon in the hamil .
The noise alone should interest the part time supporter never mind the decent toilets and being able get a drink if that way inclined .
Over 6000 sold now that's without hospitality etc on top so if we can have a end where folk enjoy the atmosphere because I for one do want sit there and hope we win we have to get out our seats and encourage a 6 out of 10 performance into a 7/8/9.
I believe with the hamil backing theres nothing Vale cannot achieve.
UTV

Spot on like i have said before the hamil is where i started supporting the vale with my father in the 54/55 seasons so i am slightly biased towards the hamil .I cannot see any sense at all in giving the best facilties to away fans when we sit in a old and delapatated stand. In all my years of going the vale ihave been in every stand in the ground even the old family stand for the last 40 years i have been in the bycars even when there was not a roof on the stand so believe me i have done my stint there. When we played swindon it was like going home to me the atmosphere was electric just as it should be not only that you could go toilet with out sliding on water or urine on the tiles.Just imagine the lorne street been finished as a family stand next to the home end.The fanzone extended up towards Tommy Cheadles  the Rudge statue outside the hamil lookig towards burslem .No away fans walking down the hamil after the match towards burslem looking for trouble with our local so called fans.People say the scoreboard hinders some view well take the thing down and put a new one in the old family stand if we want success we have to change stop living in the past lets go forward together for the betterment of our P.V.F.C.

I still can't get my head around why anybody would want to give up the chance to use the Bycars toilet facilities or the comprehensive range of delights from the Bycars food court ?

The food from the kiosk in the Bycars is the same food as in any other kiosk in the ground.

Apologies if this isn’t quite the right place to put this but a really good article below on some of the improvements being made to the stadium. Credit to Carol and Kevin as it’s some outlay they are making.

Looks like will be getting a kiosk for the Bycars to serve beer presumably in time for when away fans move there. I wonder if improving the PA system will allow us to increase the capacity as it was mentioned to be a compliance thing?

It has it's own thread but I see no reason why it shouldn't be included here too.

It is a fantastic article and the list of improvements is just amazing.

Imagine what the club may look like in a few years' time if this is what they can do in just one shortened summer period.

Isn't it a bit ar*e about face though? Spend money on players first so that the crowds increase to generate cash flow which then requires improvement to the ground. I understand that some aspects of the improvements are required for legal reasons of course.

I get what you’re saying but without going through every one of them with a fine tooth comb some even in the short term may end up being revenue generators for the club themselves which can go back into the playing budget. If some of this allows us to raise the capacity on the safety certificate then with more demand that’s also a good thing too.

I don't think so. I think you can do the two in tandem. And for me:

  • Some of the things are to help the players - new gym, better training pitch, new training zone building
  • Some are safety related - PA system. barriers, turnstiles
  • Some are revenue generators which will in turn bring in money to spend on players - Bycars bar, new RW suite

We may need the increase in capacity earlier than you think, DC as manager always does double promotions.

Slightly off topic so I apologise.

Can anyone remember when the Hamil actually became the away end ?

I went as a toddler with my dad and remember that famous 4-3 v Grimsby we were in the Hamil . We were also in the Hamil against Burnley in the cup 1977 ?

But I also have a vague memory of Sheffield Wednesday taking the Bycars end.

So was just curious as to when it became an away end. Seems mad that it was mixed given that hooliganism was rife in those days too.

Was the away stand not the railway stand behind the paddock ?

Part of the Railway Stand at the Bycars  end was partitioned with iron railings, as was part of the paddock.

When I first started going Vale we used to have a couple of blocks of the Railway Stand towards where the family stand and Bycars was which was caged off and away fans went in there as well as the Hamil. Presumably as we had to give away fans a seated option even back then. Southampton fans went in there for the cup game in 94.

Ah yes, I think that was why - it was before the seats went in the Hamil. The roof had been added but it was standing only so there was also a small seated area of the Railway given to away fans too. It was standing only when Vale fans were allowed in for the 1994 FA Cup game against Southampton so it must be around that time.
