Transfer Rumours Pre-Season

With the situation as it is regarding Popey, you would tend to think that we'd go for a striker in the mold of a traditional target man but it's not a given.  Plus there's also the option of a loanee, or a player not on the list, perhaps from the league below..

Every player either not a striker, already signed elsewhere, under contract with current club or a journeyman around 30 who has had a one-off good season. A few ex Vale players on the list. Player from Boreham Wood is meant to be quite good but he's got another 12 months and rumoured to be a target for several Championship clubs. There are very few obvious players to go for so Askey isn't going to find it easy.

Salford are in for goalkeeper Lee Camp after he was released by Birmingham City.

He won't come cheaply?

Could be a significant week for transfers with up to 3 coming in.

Thought that Askey might look to get the remaining transfers completed before the start of pre-season next Monday.

I think that would be preferable although we already have a decent squad to work with.

Paul McCallum is an interesting one on that list, but it looks like he's a London boy so we'd be to "northern".

Unlikely.  JA told Lee Blakeman that Vale have invited 2 or 3 keepers in for pre-season training with a view to having a look prior to making any decision.  By the same token, there's no reason to think the same will not be possibly the case for the outfield players.

Under contract at Solihull Motors although Barnett negotiated a right to buy for a fixed fee when they took him on loan.

So was manny

I was very sceptical when Askey took over. Thought he was completely the wrong manager for the job.

Well now I have total confidence in whoever he signs no matter what there previous stats were.

He's not a player we've been linked with but while we're on the subject here are few quotes from the Solihull Moors forum -

"Don’t see him playing for us again. "

"My understanding was that Barnet can't afford him. Do you think he will be sold to someone else? Perhaps League 1 or 2?"

"I think a League Two club should take him on, but it is dependent on the market. Will we let him go for free just to get him off the wages? If Barnet don't put on offer in, will anyone else from our division put an offer in? Would McCallum want to come back to us?"

As I said, no suggestion that we're linked in any way, just a name picked out from the list.

He's not a player I know much about. He's allegedly on 3 grand a week at Solihull. Reinforces Askey's comments about how expensive signing a forward is becoming. If someone like him signs and doesn't work out thats 300k over 2 years. It's also 10% of last season's budget a year!

3k a week at that level is mental, doesn’t ffp apply to that league, if that figure is correct, plus the salaries of all the other players has got to be way more than their gate receipts.

FFP is just for league clubs I think
