I think we are in a better position now than we have ever been when competing with other clubs for players,i personally think we will target one more striker and one with experience,i think a Palmer type would be ideal as sadly i think popes appearances will be more limited this coming season

Changing positions somewhat, the Daily Mail have linked Vale with goalkeeper Dino Visser.

If you don't already know him from his spell at Polokwane City  he is a 31 year-old South African who joined Crewe on a short term deal to act as cover for the end of season. He's not made an appearance in the English Leagues so far.

To me, it seems highly unlikely and more likely agent talk to drum up interest in the player.

I would imagine Askey is more interested in either a loanee from a higher division or a youngster who can eventually take over from Scott Brown.

Because of  Covid-19 and the impact it has had on club's finances it is also possible that we could actually sign someone is under contract at a club that is finding finances a problem. We could get ourselves a decent striker and at the same time help a club out who would normally not be interested in selling their striker but find they have to cut finances to survive. You never know in these strange times what could happen.

Heard a sniff that we've had Danny Whitehead in for talks.

Probably nonsense but it's all a bit of fun over pre-season isn't it?!

Was with Askey at Macclesfield when they got promoted and was a stand out player, before not really hitting the same heights at Salford.

I'd personally be happy with that.

Has played with Askey before and we are after a central midfielder, so I would say that this could be quite plausible - if a little obvious to predict. I'd be happy with that as a signing.

Salford forum rates him as being a decent attacking creative midfielder.

Was viewed as being in their best 11 at the start of last season and then pushed out as they started to try and buy the league.

With today's Sentinel reporting that pre-season training may start in 2 weeks (Monday 3rd August), you would think that Askey would ideally want the remaining 3 signings (goalkeeper, midfielder, striker) in the squad for then, or as soon after as possible.

Yeah seems like Askey is going about things slightly differently this year.

Ge mentioned last year how he likes to wait as long as possible because players have less options then and prices wages are more appropriate.

This year we seem to be playing the, give the players security of a deal Tactic.

As Carol said on her podcast, for forwards you need to otherwise they go elsewhere.

i can imagine a pre season loaded with trialists... a) to see if theY are any good and b) to boost 11 vs 11 games given pre season games may be hard to organise.

I think Bolton and Salford will take stopping this year, the only question mark being on their managers.

If Evatt is half decent and Graham Alexander isn't a fraud (still undecided) then I can't see anyone in the league matching the quality of footballers they'll be putting out.

I'm usually not one for 'big name signings = good' but you can't argue with Doyle, Sarcevic, and Taft being amongst the best players of their positions in the league.

I think they're in a tier of their own and then the likes of Cheltenham, Colchester, us, Exeter, Mansfield, Forest Green will be the next level below.
