Thing is, it's not about what you think, or what I think. You're obviously entitled to your views but this isn't about you or I, it's about black people trying to redress the <ovf censored> they've had to put up with, and continue to have to experience.

Not at all, this is a forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion. If the snowflakes have their way everything will shut down and nobody will be able to say anything.

There was an American professor of literature/culture discussing the Swing Low song on 5 Live late last night and what he was saying was fascinating. In his view you could interpret it in two ways. Some think it originated as a song by slaves in time of great despair to uplift their spirits from oppression. But he also said that others thought it came about from the days of the underground railroad when slaves were planning their escapes from the plantations, and really it was a sign of overcoming the struggle and the road to freedom.

So who knows? But the RFU will examine it and make their decision. I've heard different opinions on it - even from black rugby greats like Offiah and Itoje - so I doubt there will be any agreement at all.

There are many things that originate from something far far different to how they're used now.

When people hear swing low, how many of them genuinely, honestly think of the slave trade and racism?

The origins of most songs and sayings are lost in the past, their meanings change, and sometimes change back again. Very few people would know the origins of swing low, and now more do will it make any difference?

I say this with fear and trepidation but isn't the song a bit crap? I can't see why it's become so popular. Does nothing for me. But there again I don't think the NA is any great shakes either even though I'm  English to the core.

Stand in the Parc des Princes or the old Arms Park and listen to the French crowd or the Welsh lot singing their songs and the hairs on your neck will stand up.

I know Swing Low isn't our anthem but it's become synonymous with English rugby and I'm sorry but I wouldn't shed a tear whatsoever if it was dropped.

I think it's what they want phil, this isn't about racism, it's about power. No one in their right mind things that coco-pops are racist because they use a monkey character to advertise them, but a tweet from the right account and suddenly they can threaten a brand which is known on the high street for decades. Or we can get Lloyds/Barclays issuing apologies for things that happened hundreds of years ago. Or Netflix/BBC to remove tv shows.

It's why they are desperate to control what speech we use, what songs we sing, what clothes we wear, what hairstyles we can have. It's extremism and it's highly divisive.

A great example is 'all lives matter' - how desperate are people to delegitimise that phrase. Trying to paint people who genuinely just believe in equality as if they are ignorant or bigotted. Silence is violence is another one. They don't want any of us to "fight racism" unless we subscribe to their ideas.

This is the far left. The lefts equivalent of the far right. Equally as racist but unfortunately they are more switched on when it comes to marketing and PR.

It's sick and we're heading for a very dark and very racist place as a society unless people stop buying it.

but we can't go round in sack-cloth and ashes forever now, because 3-4 generations ago money was made from slavery, and built this country to be what it is today...so most things in todays society have history with slavery, do we tear it all down, we've apologised for our part in it,  how far do we have to go, or better still how much can we or how much will we take...

Yep... this is a good point, if the country as a whole had taken the official lines of investigation more seriously and hadn’t just fobbed them off then they wouldn’t have had to step it up to a level that hurts.

If only we had gone for equality earlier.
