3 in 7 starts in a poor team, I don't remember any of our strikers banging that many in... Apart from Tom Pope of course!

It wasn't 3 in 7 starts really though, was it?

He scored 1 in those 7 starts - his other 2 goals came during 27 sub appearances (which you "forgot" to include!), along with 0 in 4 Cup starts and 4 Cup subs.

He was similar to Danny Glover, in that neither was good enough for the Football League, hence they ended up 1 or 2 levels below the Conference.

You are Dan Turner's mother and I claim my five pounds reward.

It's a fair cop...

27 10 minute sub appearances only make another 3 full games, roughly 1 in 10 call it. Whatever, I know he won't be back but I think he was a better prospect than some players we have had in the past, and probably will sign in the future.

Dior went out on loan and did well. Turner went out on loan and did jack. The lad is from Biddulph, rooting for him. But not good enough. As JRC says, had moments - but not enough. Sadly.

Dior Angus should have been given more of a chance. In the one game I saw of him he scored as a sub from 1 yard out. Now I am being a bit silly here I suppose, but some strikers down't understand its is a good idea play close to goal and between the posts. And it seemed he did and by doing so was likely to tot a good total over a season. Ted MacDougall comes to mind.

Dior Angus will almost certainly score against us.

“Dire” Angus as I used to call him, had his chances. He looked poor in a team nearly relegated from the football league and never when I saw him play did he look like a goal threat.

You need to do more with a football at league level than hope it falls to you in space and will give you a shot.

I hope he is successful in the league but no way would the guy who was at Vale have become an established player.

I'm not arguing against the general criticism of some of those players. They didn't seem good enough. Agreed. But it's very hard to establish yourself in an awful team, among Port Vale's worst XI of all time, and forge a career. Giving someone a start now and again, in a team high on confidence and riding high, is ideally the way to do it, and not throwing them in at the deep end. They played in sides that created little and really were poor outfits. I thought Bennett was the best bet but even he wasn't quite aggressive enough despite an eye for goal. We need to aim higher if we are hoping to challenge for promotion and look at lads who can play in league one, not just ones of league two/national league standard.

We did see 2 young lads in Smith and Gibbons come through in poor teams to establish themselves. We’ve seen Clark, Taylor and Burgess do well more recently.  It could be argued it may be harder to establish yourself  in a struggling team that was also a bit negative in its setup for most of  the last 3 years as well, especially as a striker. But in all honesty  did any of the lads that came in as inexperienced football league players over the last 3 seasons do anything else other than those few lads I mentioned? I don’t think there have been many that have. Buts that the hard side of football, you have to come in and quickly make an impression and if you don’t then unfortunately most managers don’t have the patience to wait for them to be able to step up to the mark.

Great news.! One of my favourite players at the moment.

Quick contract recap for any who want to know...

Under contract to 2021
* Manny Oyeleke
* Alex Hurst
* Dan Tricket-Smith
* Ryan Campbell-Gordon
* Adam Crookes
* Tom Pope
* Leon Legge
* Scott Brown
* Luke Joyce
* Mark Cullen
* Cristian Montano
* Shaun Brisley

Under contract to 2022
* Tom Conlon
* David Amoo
* David Worrall
* James Gibbons
* Scott Burgess

Not yet announced/no deal reached
* Rhys Browne
* Nathan Smith

Think Browne will be signed up in the next few days then we'll just have to accept Smith has gone. If he does sign then great, he'll be like a new signing. But clubs probably won't be signing up new players when money is tight and the current season hasn't even ended yet for the leagues above us. Therefore Smith will need a couple of months to be given offers by other clubs and make his mind up.

I don’t want Smith to go, but he’s had long enough to decide. If he wants to go somewhere else then that says to me he doesn’t want to play for us.
