Missing Smith, Taylor, Manny, and Amoo, we've gone to a team unbeaten at home in all competitions since the 2nd October, and unbeaten home or away since Boxing Day, and kept a clean sheet and returned with 3 points.

With the aforementioned quartert likely to return soon, everything is coming together nicely; genuine compeitition for places, a good team spirit, a good run of form, and something to fight for.

Today we had spells under the cosh but Brown did his job with a string of good, but not outstanding, saves. Back 4, especially Brisley, were spot on. The organisation of our defence and system is superb, and testament to the good coaching being done day in, day out.

Everyone else did their jobs and we took our chance, with MOTM Conlon sending in a peach for Worrall to nod home, continuing Tom's excellent form. Subs were made at the correct time for maximum effect.

Cobblers were direct and had chances but had Lines on the bench and didn't get Adams or Marshall involved enough; we did our homework and Legge and Brisley were content to head away incessant long throws and corners.

We might still fall short, but an excellent day and we're right up there. Exciting months ahead. Askey is our king. UTV

Pope definitely swung the balance.

Whether he is the most impactful in the last 20, fresh, I don't know. Bennett had a mare today.

Anyone know the playoff dates? Can only see the final online

L2 play off Final is 16 May but other dates nowhere to be found

Reckon the Semi 1st legs will be played between Friday 1st May - Sunday 3rd May and the 2nd legs will be between Monday 4th - Wednesday 6th May, leaving no less than 10 days before the Wembley Final.

Bennett tries his best. He gives a 100%. However I’m not convinced he’s up to the job especially away from home where you need the forward to hold the ball and take the pressure off the defence. My worry is that Pope’s future suspension will scupper things for us.

Great game to win

Wouldn’t pay to watch Northampton every week just launching long balls and long throws hoping something drops. Vale defended really well limiting their chances.

Agreed. I’ve seen more football played in the Endon High School U12s house matches. Awful game to watch but great 3 points.

With Brisley's form, would it be bad business to cash in on Smith, if we get the offers, and use the money to further strengthen team for next season?

Brilliant win, probably a good time to play them after their Cup game against Derby so to go in a do a job on them shows how far we have come from last season.

This progress has Askey's hallmarks written all over it.
He builds teams, who consequently over perform.
He's patient and persistent.
Goes about his work quietly.
Maintains a level head, which I think is admirable.
It could all change, as he says, but I'm getting a bit concerned that we might make the play offs 😳

Definitely not as has been proved we need three centre halves.Well played Brisley though. Listening on radio smoke Brisley got mentioned for his excellent defending time after time

We can only get money for Smith if he signs a new contract. If he goes in the summer we get nowt.

Oh yes, more to the point, he'll be 24 in April,  so sign him up asap, but another plus that has emerged  in as much as how Brisley has stepped up to the plate when most people thought that it would be a car crash if Smith got injured. To quote some after the Swindon game,  "This is what life would be like , without Smith".  Well it looks like JA knew better than most, yet again

Very scrappy game, they pinned us back for most of the game. Defensively we looked solid, and Scotty Brown saved us a couple of times. That was definitely a bit of a smash n grab, great scenes in the away end when Wozza scored. Great day out, we are proving to be a hard team to beat. Players returning from injury at the right time, I'm starting to believe, Plymouth away is going to be massive [emoji848]

That'd be great! Then I can pop over to the middle East for the final! At least I could watch the legs
