Time to leave him to it?

OK this is a rambling and random idea, but as it stands nothing seems too far-fetched at PVFC.

Hereford, Wimbledon and others have come back as phoenix clubs.

If we were to be led by Carol Shanahan and found land for a new stadium, and reformed as Burslem Vale FC or similar would that work for us? I would rather do this than go under with that creature having the final say.

When you think about it, WE are the club. All the memories are ours, all the support has come from us, the historic fan-scenes like at Brighton or v Spurs, or even the 12,000 v Burton or Northampton were made by us. The fanzines, the away buses, the local pubs are all read, travelled on or used by us the fans, not the club. The noise we make, the chat on forums, the calls to Radio Stoke - that's us. WE are the club.

Leave Smurthwaite to it - he can have his wretched stadium and his miserable plans.

By the way, I fully appreciate it's a very long-winded affair to even begin to do this and would require endless effort but it CAN be done.

Thoughts?

Smithie, I will respond to your email which I think is very thought provoking and to say the least offers an alternative to the doom that Gorm offers us, later when I've had time to compose my thoughts.

In the meantime I've noticed that Nuneaton Borough FC's owner has stepped down and the Club is now in the hands of the manager Jimmy Ginnelly. Gives you food for though eh? Also a "mystery" buyer has now purchased a Grade 2 listed Old Ritz Bingo Hall/Cinema situated in the centre of Nuneaton. The buyer cannot be named at this stage, but again the connection with Gorm and Nuneaton and the strange way he seems to operate make you wonder. Perhaps, and certainly hopefully, this is Gorm making his business empire bigger and will he then leave us alone?

But how does it work League License wise? Doesn't he own that? So we'll have to start out in playing in a local league? I know it can be done, but we'll need serious money! Even United of Manchester, has sort of hit a wall, as to how far up they can go. It worked out sort of ok for Wimbledon, and Hereford where are they? There's no guarantee...

Its the only way forward if he refuses to sell the club. It would be great to have our club back, even as a lower non-league outfit, and fatso sits all alone in his precious stadium.

Think of all the promotions we could achieve.

That's how I see it. Sooner or later, if things continue as they are, we will have to think the unthinkable as the team becomes unviable either in footballing terms or as a going concern, or both. Smithie should be thanked for setting the ball rolling.

It would be a great pity, wouldn't it, to have to start all over again after more than 140 years? But, if we want to have a club that's worth supporting, we may have to do it. At some point, and I think there's further depths to be plumbed under the genius of our beneficent owner, it will be sink or swim and, to be honest, I'd sooner jump of my own volition than sink with him at the helm.

One of the helpful things about it is that others have been there before us and shown that it can be done. And they've shown there is a lot of fun to be had as well as serious endeavour. Just think, we could look forward to Saturdays again with the prospect of seeing a winning team (or at least one that's capable of winning); we would have our own club back; we might even attract a decent owner prepared to invest in the club. And better still, Smurthwaite would be out of our hair.

Port Vale 1876, or even AFC Port Vale, has a nice ring to it.
