What are our expectations/targets for the rest of the season?

It seems like a good time to set some targets now that Aspin has confirmed he has staying and apparently the chairman, manager and players are all on the same page.

 

The boat seems to have sailed on getting a new manager and giving him the January transfer window to get some players in. Therefore we can assume that Aspin will be staying until the end of the season unless we start to get into major trouble and Smurthwaite has no choice but to go for the new manager boost.

 

So putting aside the first half of the season, what constitutes a success for Aspin going forward? If you were the chairman what would your targets be and what would you judge him by? A mid-table finish? An improvement on last season (20th)? Survival? Or will you be looking at performances and/or style of play?

For me, mid table,safe enough near the end to not be looking down, more consistent displays, players performing to potential,played in position! ( oh and pope not throwing his arms around all the time and moaning it’s everyones fault he’s not scoring!)

I would remove the captaincy from Pope so that he can concentrate more on scoring instead of ranting. I would make Legge the captain.

 

A top half finish of 12th would be a major improvement on last season and the first half of this one.

 

Proper full backs playing in the right position. A new left back and a decent striker bought in the January window.

 

And a bit of positive football (not setting out just not to lose) that we can all enjoy and not feel totally bored.

50 points for a start. Then move on to better times. Better scouting, as Lincoln set up a system of having opposition watched 6 times before playing them.

Start playing some decent stuff and evolving the side. Move away from playing 6 centre halves and playing football. If we’re going to move forward aspin needs to what he said when he came. He wanted to entertain and mix the football up. Sign a few wingers and start doing what we were good at. For jan I want us to keep and sign up the likes of manny and Hannant, bring in 2 wingers and a forward and give the likes of Angus a chance. I’d snap your hands off at mid table that’s how poor we’ve been.

I agree with Popeys moaning, it must be annoying all his fellow team mates, but, as has been the case for any forwards this year, it's not his fault we're not scoring, we have to start creating.

 

So, giving the fact that he's saying and he admits we've not been good enough in order to stop that, one has to assume change of some description is coming ....

 

Mine would be to have more faith in the players, stop being so negative, play some football on the floor and I think we will win more than enough games to finish somewhere around the 14th/15th mark. After what we have endured this season, I would be more than happy with that.

Sounds negative but I have no faith in Aspin to keep us in this league. What’s happening now is pretty similar to what started happening around this time last season but it’s happened a bit earlier.

How can people moan at Pope he gets no support or service. He asks for the ball quicker and it doesnt arrive. He holds the ball up and has nobody running off him.

Back on topic i would expect better football, continuing to improve the squad and then a mid table finish.

It is always better to have defenders as captains anyway. They observe the game better from the back. Plus Legge is a seasoned pro as well now.
